Sports Coordinator
The past two weeks have been filled with fantastic achievements and exciting events in our College's sporting community. It's inspiring to see the dedication, hard work, and passion our students bring to their sports, and I’m thrilled to share some of these highlights with you.
Boys Netball Championships
Our 7-11 Boys Netball teams recently competed in the School Netball Championships, and their commitment to training and improving their skills was evident in their performances on the day. Despite an early start and a late return, the day was well worth it as all three teams put on a stellar display of netball, representing our College with pride. A special congratulations to the Year 7/8 Boys Netball team, who were awarded runners-up on the day - a massive achievement that they should be very proud of.
Inspiring Visit from Tyler Best
We were fortunate to have Tyler Best visit our Year 3-6 students, sharing his incredible journey of hard work, dedication, and resilience in basketball, which has led him to pursue College Basketball in the US. Tyler, along with Marc Sartori from the Seymour Blasters, left a lasting impression on our students, inspiring them to get involved in basketball within the local community. We are excited to see our students join this awesome local club and continue to develop their passion for the sport.
Josh's Senior Debut
Congratulations to Josh Porter, who made his Senior debut with the Seymour Lions. As an eligible Under 16's player, Josh has been playing in the Under 18's team in 2024, where his impressive performances have caught the attention of senior coaches, earning him the call-up to the senior team. Josh’s hard work and determination are a testament to what can be achieved with the right mindset, and we look forward to following his football journey and future successes.
Final Round Robin of 2024
The final Round Robin for 2024 was held on Monday 19th August, with secondary students competing in Table Tennis, Basketball, and Dodgeball. It was an exciting culmination of the Round Robin tournaments, and it was fantastic to see such high levels of participation. Both teachers and students returned to the College pleased with their efforts. Special congratulations to the Year 7 Boys Table Tennis Team (Harvey Smith, Thomas Enrico, Finn Melville, and Levi Brown) and the Year 10 Girls Table Tennis Team (Romany Faulknor, Melhoney Pambai, and Melrose Pambai), who finished as overall winners on the day and will progress to the Hume Region Competition later in the year.
Victorian Short Course Country Championships 2024
Well done to our Seymour Shark representatives - Jack Lomax, Kai Raynor, Sienna Lynch, and Willow Bradshaw - who qualified for the Victorian Short Course Country Championships 2024. There were many personal bests and great swims by all, and we are proud of their achievements.
Goulburn Murray Football Netball League Finals
Congratulations to all students who represented a team in the Goulburn Murray finals last weekend. We have students competing in the Grand Final this weekend in both football and netball. Please be sure to email me the results - I’m eager to hear about your successes!
In our Year 8 SEPEP Basketball unit, students have been fully immersed in the roles that make up a sporting community, gaining hands-on experience as coaches, captains, referees, statisticians, photographers, and journalists. This approach allows them to develop a deeper understanding of the various responsibilities within a sports team, beyond just playing the game.
Last week, one of our student journalists, Sienna Lynch, had the opportunity to cover an exciting game. Below is her report on the match, showcasing the skills she’s honed in her role as a sports journalist. ⬇️
Round 1 - Italy VS Afghanistan
For the first round of the Year 8 basketball SEPEP tournament,
we had Italy Vs Afghanistan. Italy got off to a strong start
with Will Lynch making some excellent clearances and had main roles in
offence and defence. Afghanistan had to play catch-up for the rest of the game.
The entire Italy team played crucial roles at both ends of the court.
Italy’s shooting skills were on point.
The Afghanistan team provided good defence, but not strong enough to stop Italy.
Zahira Wilson scored the first 2 points for Afghanistan, making that a
main highlight in their game. Thomas DiMartino had a key role in the offence
and scored consistently throughout the match, making him the highest scoring player in the game. Considering her height, Laura Fearn played a key part
in Afghanistan’s defence, making multiple attempts to steal the ball off of Italy players, and holding them up when trying to shoot. Ella Jarvis and Charli Egan were vital to Italy’s offence, always available to help bring the ball down the court. Overall, it was a good game played by both teams. SCORE Italy-14 Afghanistan-2v
