Principal's Report

Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/Carers,

LET’S CELEBRATE!

So far this term, we have celebrated Public Education Week, Science Week and this week we are currently celebrating Book Week. I cannot wait to see everyone’s door display! As we move along in the term, we will be celebrating in Week 10 with our Fairvale Festival. Children who are performing in the festival – ‘Going for Gold’ have already received a participation/ commitment note. This note is important as it ensures that each child is committed to the 3 shows – a dress rehearsal, matinee and evening performance. Tickets for this special event will be going on sale from next Thursday 5 September, 2024

BIKE VISITS WITH MR PITT

This last fortnight I visited many of the specialist roles that we have on offer at Fairvale. I have spent time with many children and the following teachers - our Learning and Support Teacher (LaST) - Mr Kinniburgh, Speech Support teacher - Mrs Batten, Literacy and Numeracy Support teachers – Mrs Li and Mrs Craig. These teachers support children and classes across the school and are an integral part of what we do at Fairvale PS – ‘putting children at the centre’ of all that we do. It has been a lot of fun over the last two weeks. Check out some of my pics in this edition of the school newsletter.

SCHOOL SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY

This year 180 students from Years 2-6 will have the opportunity to participate in the school’s swimming and water safety program at the Whitlam Leisure Centre. The program is for students who are non and/or weak swimmers. The program will assist students to sustain confidence whilst in the water as well as focus on basic survival skills to help keep children and their families stay safe around water. It still amazes me that there so many young people who cannot swim today; this is skill that needs to be taught from a young age.  Once the student numbers reach 180, the program will be closed.

This year the program will operate in Term 4 – Week 2 for 5 days, with the children travelling by bus to the venue every day. The total cost for the 5-day program was going to be $60.00 per student (daily pool entry and bus fare), however, the school will subsidise $10 per student; therefore, the total cost will be $50 per student

If your child is in Year 2 to Year 6, and fits the criteria outlined above, I would strongly encourage you to allow your child to participate. Year 2 students will receive the note in Week 6, and Years 3-6 students in Week 7.

CONGRATULATIONS CALVIN 6D!

Congratulations to Calvin 6D who has been successful in gaining entry into Sefton HS in 2025 after he sat for the selective high school test. This is a wonderful achievement for Calvin, who has worked extremely hard at our school. Well done Calvin, we all very proud of you! Gaining entry into selective high school is always challenging and I acknowledge other students who sat the test.

FATHER’S DAY

I am hoping all our Dads, Grandfathers, Uncles and big Brothers all have a lovely Father’s Day on Sunday. I am sure you love the gift you receive. A very big thank you to our Mums from Parent Group who attended school today to assist at the Father’s Day Stall – it is much appreciated by the whole community. Thank you also to Miss Michelle and Miss Samira for coordinating the stall as I know there is quite a lot of planning that goes on to ensure these days run smoothly.

Have a great fortnight
