Performing Arts

Foundation

Foundation students this week are participating in a range of activities to do with music and dance.

Students have been practising their memorisation and signing when it comes to nursery rhymes and some of their favourite disney songs.

Students have also been learning about rhythm and clapping to the beat of different tunes.

Grades 1/2

This week the 1/2 students have been playing the Boomwhackers.

The students have been given the chance to learn how to play some of their favourite songs using the Boomwhackers.

The students were given 5 rules to follow to allow them the opportunity to play the Boomwhackers and they all followed these rules well.

They were able to successfully play their favourite songs and sounded great.

As you can imagine the room got very loud very quickly.

Students were able to read the music well and understood how to play them.

Grades 3/4

The past two weeks the 3/4 students have been participating in a workshop on puppet plays.

The first week students have been placed with partners and have been given the opportunity to create their own puppet plays.

The students were given the opportunity to create their own ideas on what their play is going to be about.

Students have planned in the first week about who, what, where the play is going to take place, along with creating a script to follow.

In the second week students were then given the chance to colour in and create their own finger puppet characters, they were then given some time to rehearse their play before they had to perform in front of the class using the puppet theatre in the classroom.

This was a really fun exercise for the students as they were able to generate their own ideas and then perform them in front of the class using elements of Drama.

Grades 5/6

The past two weeks the 5/6 students have been participating in Readers Theatre which provides them with the opportunity to work in small groups and learn and perform a small play in front of the classroom.

They were placed in groups with people they may not always work with to put them out of their comfort zones which is exactly what Drama is about.

Students were given the first week to familiarise themselves with their scripts and work out who was going to be who and how they were going to perform their play in front of the classroom.

The second week students then picked a costume to represent their character, and then got up and performed their play to the class.

All the students did a great job performing and all demonstrated great skills when it comes to performing.
