Visual Arts

Students in 5/6 added a layer of tissue paper to their canopic jars last week.

There are some excellent sculptural animal heads starting to emerge from this project, which was all kicked off by using the Pharaoh exhibition in Melbourne as a starting point. This week students will give their animals their final layer: paint pen patterns and other details.

The upcoming Book Week theme “Reading is Magic” was the catalyst for this latest activity being completed by the 3/4 students.

Students learnt about the commonalities and differences between dragons from different cultural storytelling.

Firstly they drew one and then used a similar process to create a low relief dragon eye sculpture with packing peanuts.

Students in 1/2 are looking at artworks and stories by Indigenous Australian Artsists.

Last week we read “Where is Galah?” by Sally Morgan and discussed recurring elements in her artworks.

Students then drew, outlined and painted their landscapes.

Foundation students completed their mixed media collage by adding a parrot in the foreground of last week's floral printed background.

The students were given a template and thought about what their bird was doing: was it flying, alighting on a branch or dive bombing?

The students moved their pieces around to show the bird in a pose before choosing one and glueing this down.
