A Message from the

Assistant Principal

Mr Steven Belcastro

Dear Parents and Carers,

Today is the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary which honors Mary, the Mother of God, as blessed. It takes place each year on September 12th, four days after the feast of the Birth of the Blessed Mother. The feast day encourages us all to pray for her intercession to deepen our love of Christ and our relationship with the Lord.

Wellbeing Dog

Yesterday, we made our big announcement that starting next term, Cookie, our wellbeing dog will begin work at St. Martha's. This has not been an overnight decision. A lot of thought and discernment went into the decision and a lot of work has been undertaken, including visits and discussions with other schools who have a wellbeing dog. Some of the benefits they had seen were around attendance, behaviour, anxiety and connectedness.

Mrs Parsell, Mrs Ronzini, Mrs Lambropoulos, Miss Pitton and Miss Berghofer are our 'Core Team' who are currently engaging with 'Dogs Connect' to complete training and establish protocols and policies as well as preparing us as a school for Cookies arrival.

A survey was sent home yesterday via Compass which we ask all families to complete. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Parsell, Mrs Ronzini or myself. I have included below some frequently asked questions and answers.

School Hats

School hats form a part of our school uniform. Whilst most children are wearing their hat each day, and therefore protecting themselves from the sun, there are still a few students who have either left their hat at home or lost their hat. Our school policy states that all students must wear their school hat when they are outside or during lunch. This includes all students regardless of the grade they are in. Please remind your child to wear their school hat at school. If your child has lost his/her hat, new hats are available at the office for $20.00. Children without their school hat during play times will be asked to sit in the shade. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Allergies

We have a number of students who have nut allergies. Anaphylaxis is the most severe form of allergic reaction, and is life threatening. Just a reminder to all parents to please ensure that you do not send any nut products into school with your children. This includes nut spreads on sandwiches. Thank you for your support in helping to keep these allergy students safe.
