Clay Target Shooting
Last Monday, College was fortunate to have six students from the clay target shooting team participate in the VCTA Beretta Australia School Students Championship.
The students battled through the windy and cold conditions. The targets were challenging to hit, but the students were able to secure the overall team shield, winning by one target. The winning team consisted of Lincoln Brown, Lachie Pringle, Harry Brown, Braden Veale, and Josh Pringle.
Year 12 student Ben Vallance was invited to compete following his recent High Gun win at the Southwest Zone Trap Shoot. Unfortunately, due to the conditions, Ben was unable to follow through with his success from Noorat.
Congratulations to the boys on their winning efforts. We want to thank the parents for taking the students to Echuca, all the volunteers, the Echuca Clay Target Club, and the VCTA for organising the day.
We look forward to next Monday, 9 September, Glenelg Division Shoot at Hamilton Clay Target Club.
Hockey
Division 1 Men
The Open team met Couldabeens in the semi-final last weekend after receiving a beating from them the week before. In a decision after last week’s report was printed, we were awarded that game due to an ineligible player taking the field for our opponents.
Last weekend, our opponents were affected by some personnel changes from the previous game, and we got an early jump on them when Harry Dorahy scored a neat goal. After that, the game tightened up for a while, and we conceded an equaliser; however, the last five minutes before halftime saw us find our form and score two goals through Isaac Shaw and Jack Jarvis. We played good hockey into the wind in the second half and drew away with further goals to Ciaran Nelson and Charlie Hawthorne and a second for Isaac.
6-1 gave us a good win in a much-improved performance from the week earlier.
We now play the Rams in next weekend’s Grand Final. We would love to have loud and supportive College fans at Pedrina Park for this game! We hope to see you at 2:00 on Saturday.
