Our boarder of the week is Lucy Carmody. Lucy resides in Mortlake and has been such a positive influence on our girls in Mac House. It is not uncommon for Lucy to volunteer her time for other girls or for the Boarding House. Thank you, Lucy, for your continued service to others.
This week, we hosted our annual pool competition. In the evenings, borders from each year level and each House competed against each other. With so much excitement and competitive spirit, the games drew quite a crowd.
Once again, a big thank you to our Boarding House Captains for initiating the Inter-House Competition this year. With Mac House currently leading the way, the pool competition might just be an opportunity for Speirs House to level the playing field. As a popular pastime with our boarders, their skills are quite sharp. Some boarders even have the added skill of knowing where the slope of the table is located ...
We have so many boarders involved in our sporting community, and they wouldn’t be able to be a part of this unless they had the support of our local families. They endlessly assist boarders in getting to training and games on weekends and make them feel part of a community.
Representing Caramut Football Netball Club, Lottie Volker won this year’s Under 18’s League Best and Fairest Netballer. Her talent and fair play was duly recognised at the League Vote Count this week. It is also fitting to thank and congratulate the O’Sullivan and Heazlewood families for supporting Lottie and taking her under their wing.
Huge congratulations, Lottie!
Homework doesn’t have to be heads down all the time, it can be an opportunity to play games that improve our Maths or English skills. Our Year 7-8 boarders do exactly that. Literacy is certainly an important part of a good education, and if there is an opportunity to improve this then we should take it.
Lise Lowe, Houseparent to our Year 7 and 8’s, regularly gets her boarders engaged in a game of Bananagrams or Scrabble. These are two great games to test boarders’ literacy skills and extend their knowledge through a game. Playing these games also builds social skills, how to win and lose, and most importantly, how to have fun without their devices.
