House Services are an important part of the fabric of our school. On Monday, Learmonth House presented their 2024 House Service at the Hamilton Uniting Church. Their theme of ‘Gratitude’ was very well presented via Bible readings, a story ‘The Old Lady And Her House’, in songs including ‘You Can Never Be Too Grateful’ and ‘Thank You’ and, in acrostic and gratitude poems. Reverend Doctor Fiona Hill spoke to us about the value of gratitude. Well done to the Prep to Year 6 Learmonth students and Mrs. Bell for presenting a relevant and thoughtful House Service.
Early Childhood Educators’ Day was Wednesday, 4 September. It recognises and celebrates the work of Australia’s educators in early learning services (long day care, family day care, kindergarten / preschools and occasional care) for their wonderful contribution to the wellbeing and healthy development of the young children in their care. Our Early Learning Centre team of Silvina Werner, Tamara Weilbaecher, Emma Gordon, Bree Clapham, Angel Weisbach and Bernadine Kelvy do an amazing job of educating and caring for our youngest Collegians. Their invaluable work is appreciated by all.
Earlier this term, a small group of Year 2-6 Junior School students sat the ICAS English and Spelling Competition papers, competing against students across Australia. As the world’s global language and arguably two of the most important subjects of the Australian curriculum, English and Spelling are a crucial building block for academic success. ICAS English and Spelling assessments are designed to provide an objective ranking of students’ performance based on the English curricula for the relevant year.
Congratulations to the following students and well done sat the assessments:
Merit (Top 40% of ICAS students throughout Australia)
Credit (Top 25%)
Distinction- (Top 10%)
Our second and final round of Parent/Teacher Interviews will take place on Monday 9 September and Tuesday 10 September from 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm. Online and in-person interviews can be booked with classroom and specialist teachers via SIMON. The booking system will close at 12.00 pm this Friday, 6 September. The 15 - minute interviews are to discuss student progress. Semester Two reports will be released in Week 8 of Term.
Hats On Day is usually the first day of spring, 1 September. With the eclectic and windy weather of late, we have made the decision to push this back to Day 1 of Term 4, Monday 7 October. Parents are most welcome to send hats into school prior to this date. Please ensure they are named. When not on heads at recess, lunch and in P.E lessons, hats will stay in lockers and on classroom hooks throughout Term 4.
I am looking for assistance from parents regarding 3.15 pm pick-up at the Junior School. All cars should only use the driveway to exit the property. In the last few weeks, a number of drivers have been using the laneway behind the Early Learning Centre to make a quick getaway. This isn’t a driveway but rather an access laneway for maintenance and horsemanship staff. Please assist us in ensuring the safety of students, staff and parents by keeping to the designated exit driveway.
As local sports reach the exciting final and grand final stages of their respective competitions, I wish all Junior School students and families involved the very best.
John Wooden was an American basketball coach. He was the most successful coach in the history of College basketball, winning 10 NCAA titles in 12 years with UCLA. John Wooden was a unique coach, renowned for his holistically development of his players. Some of his quotes are worth contemplation before playing in finals.

Basketball - Hoop Time
This week all of our students in Years 3-6 were lucky enough to attend the Hoop Time Basketball Carnival at HILAC. On Tuesday, our Year 3-4 ‘Future Stars’ players enjoyed a round robin format of fabulous basketball fun. Our students are highly commended for their positive sportsmanship, inclusive teamwork and support of their peers throughout the day. All teams scored impressive wins on the day and our College Hawks team, ably coached by Mr Michael King even won the Future Stars Grand Final! WOW!
Thank you to Michael King, Katie Pye, Ms Winstanley and Mr Hawthorne for coaching our teams and to Bec Small, Phoebe Stewart and Katrina Robertson for scoring.
We look forward to the busy chaos of the Year 5-6 Hoop Time Carnival to be held on Friday.
