We have all been having an excellent Term 3 in Physical Education. Our students have been spending the last few weeks on units of sport to practice some new movements, skills and gameplay.
Our Foundation students have been participating in a 3-weeks unit of Gymnastics. They have been exploring different equipment, such as the high and low balance beams, wedges, crash mats, hula hoops, mini tramps and more. They have been practising rotational activities, where they have been able to play and explore movement skills that are associated with all the equipment.
Our Year 1/2 students have also just completed their Gymnastics unit. They have been using the equipment to practice specific and correct form of movements with equipment, such as how to mount the high beam and the correct landing form from a jump.
Our students in Year 3/4 have continued exploring net sports this term and have moved on from Volley stars to Badminton. They have had a chance to recognise and use new equipment, comparing the differences in the rackets and shuttle to other net sports that they know. They have focused on the skill of serving correctly over the net, and played competitive games based around this skill.
Students in Year 5/6 have also been working on their badminton skills. They have been focusing on improving their serving skills and styles, so that it lands correctly and accurately in the court. They have also been developing their skills of rallying in gameplay, and have practiced this in games of continuous badminton, where there are multiple courts practising doubles matches at the same time, with students constantly rotating in and out of play.
Outside of our school classes, I would also like to pass on my congratulations to every student who competed at the Balaclava District Athletics Carnival last Wednesday. They tested themselves against some of the best athletes from our opposing schools, with lots of success across many different track and field events. As a school, we came Runner Up in the small school category, bringing the Craig Mottram Trophy to Ripponlea. Make sure you have a look out for it in the trophy cabinet.
For any student that came back with a first or second ribbon, please check in with Tye if you have qualified for the Division Athletics, which takes place on the 15th of October. More details will be released regarding this event soon.
Don’t forget to look out for me in the yard and share those great sporting moments that you’ve been having outside of school too!

Ciao Ripper Families!
I hope you're all having a great term. The students have been working "molto bene" in Italian this term, engaging in all activities and embracing all the learning. It's been wonderful seeing their efforts.
Foundation- The students made stick puppets to act out the story "Il Pappagallo". They emersed themselves in the pronunciation of words, using expression and embracing the characters in the story. We have begun reading "Il Mio Fratellino" (My brother) and focusing on the language in the story and exploring goods we can buy at the market.
Year 1/2- We have been reading the story " Succhi di Frutta" focusing on the characters in the story, how to order fruit/fruit juice, using expression and the correct pronunciation. The students are enjoying reading the story and will be choosing a character from the story to perform in their group.
Year 3/4 - The unit "Giochiamo Insieme!” (Let’s Play Together) has given students the opportunity to read, follow instructions and use Italian to play games. They have played - Go Fish, Snap, Memory and Snakes and Ladders.
Year 5/6 - We have focused on verbs related to hobbies and activities, the main idea in texts, deciphering dialogues and dramatising them in our unit “Hobby e Attività”
The students will also be learning to express how much they like various activities.
Grazie.
