Both VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies classes have had the chance to get on the water and canoe this term. The Year 11/12 group combined a paddle on the Clifton Creek backwater with a visit to Howitt Park, where they studied historical and modern uses of the area, and its importance as a healthy environment. The paddle was very calm, with the students practicing the techniques they learnt last year, and they completed water and soil testing while they were at it.
The Year 10/11 group were a bit livelier, as they headed up the Tambo River from Johnsonville. The aim was to develop skill in preparation for the overnight canoe trip on Lake Tyers, but they also got to practice capsize drills, with two boats going over during the trip. Turns out that it is very cold. Brrrr.
Jonah and Noah organised a fundraiser to raise money for brand-new LEGO sets to give to disadvantaged children in our community.
Dear Bairnsdale teaching staff,
I just wanted to drop you a quick note to say a massive thank you for coming to the teachers' burger lunch on Monday, August 21st. Your support really helped make our fundraising event a success!
The lunch was a great chance to gather and raise funds for buying a LEGO pallet for disadvantaged kids who don’t have the same opportunities. It was awesome to see so many of you there, and your presence really showed how much we can achieve when we all come together for a good cause.
We sold over 50 burgers, raising over $600 for the Blocks of Joy initiative.
Thanks again for your time and support. It means a lot and will definitely make a big difference for the kids who will benefit from the LEGO sets.
Best regards,
Jonah, Noah, Jaimond & Mr Brooks
