On Friday 16th August, Year 8 students who are part of the Blue Edge program attended Camp Coolamatong. The day was a huge success with lots of activities and some very yummy camp cooking.
The Blue Edge program (Educate, Develop, Grow, Empower) program aims to increase young people's resilience and wellbeing. The program runs for 16 sessions and uses exercise, workshops, peer support and community role models to improve student wellbeing. The program is available for Year 7 to 9 students.
The sessions involve exercise, a shared meal and a workshop. Workshops focus on young people's wellbeing, building confidence and self-worth, tools to regulate emotions, connections and teamwork.
Our Year 8 Camp which will be held at Camp Coolamatong from September 4th to 6th 2024 is approaching fast and we are all very excited.
Our students will have the exceptional opportunity to participate in a workshop designed and delivered by the REACH FOUNDATION who are renowned for their inspiring and impactful programs for young people. Workshops for our students have been specifically designed around building resilience and respect for each other and our differences.
The Reach Foundation (Reach) is a youth 'not for profit' organisation established by Jim Stynes OAM and film director Paul Currie in 1994. Reach was created from a desire to inspire every young person to believe in themselves and get the most out of life.
Reach runs national school and community-based programs for young people aged 10 to 18 designed to promote their mental health and wellbeing. Programs are run by the young Reach 'Crew' in over 500 metropolitan and regional schools and communities across Australia. The main focus is on prevention and early intervention. Programs aim to identify the underlying reasons for negative behaviour and enable young people to redirect their energy towards more positive outcomes.
Students will also engage in a number of activities at Camp Coolamatong including canoeing, abseiling, bush cooking and bike riding. Click on the file below for a list of what to bring.
