Wellbeing & Culture

R U OK day is always held on the 2nd Thursday of September, and will be next week on Thursday 12th of September. The school will be celebrating this by encouraging the students to wear a splash of Yellow on that day and some amazing activities have been planned for in the classrooms.

R U OK day is a great reminder to always check in with the people around you. Quite often people around us look ok as they are masking their true feelings but for even just one person to ask “R U OK?” shows them that other people are thinking of them and care about them. By starting that conversation we can not only ensure that people know that we care, we also can encourage conversations around what is affecting them and then we can encourage them to get the support that they need.

From the R U OK website: R U OK? inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life.

You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener.

Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:

  • - Ask R U OK?
  • - Listen
  • - Encourage action
  • - Check in
