Upcoming Special Days and Dress-Ups
Croydon Hills Primary School has a great tradition of dressing up for special occasions. This includes Book Week, which was a highlight last week, the annual Year 2 excursion to Mont De Lancey, and the broader community calendar events.
The school is conscious that these days can cause some organisational stress for families and, as such, encourages families to engage in the days at a level they feel comfortable. As a school, we look to put in controls to prevent them being too arduous. Some of these days, the school nominates them as simply having 'a splash of...' . This means, families don't need to go all out, the dress-up could be as simple as a pin supporting that venture, or wearing a particular coloured top, for example, the upcoming 'Wear a splash of yellow on RUOK Day on Thursday 12th September'.
The Junior School Council also looks to make our end-of-term JSC fundraiser dress-up days simple, to help reduce any family organisational stresses. Our end-of-term JSC dress-up will be in honour of National Diabetes Week which was in Week 1 of Term 3. The dress-up theme is to dress as your 'Favourite Jelly Bean Colour on Friday 20th September' with gold coin donations going to ‘Type 1 Foundation’.
Other days, like the upcoming 'Wear your Sport Colours Day' on Thursday 19th September, which coincides with Canteen Special Footy Lunch Day, are days which we hope families can simply go to their wardrobes and select their favourite supporter wear - I'll be in my Saints colours!
MOTH's Father's Day Bowling
Last Friday evening the school community gathered for the annual Parents' Association Father's Day Bowling.
Once again the evening was a hit with fathers and other role models enjoying an evening with their children and each other. Thanks again to the Men Of The Hills (a branch of our Parents' Association) for organising the event).
Nation Child Protection Week
This week is National Child Protection Week. NCPW began in Australia in 1987 with an aim to engage and educate all Australians to understand they have a part to play in keeping our children and young people safe. This year's theme continues to champion the message ‘Every child in every community needs a fair go’ and is complemented with the theme ‘Every conversation matters’.
Conversations are powerful tools to keep children and young people safe and well.
Conversations can help us understand issues, craft solutions, value community knowledge, and build the brains and social connections of children and young people.
Conversations between:
…children and their caregivers matter (from the very earliest days)
…children and their peers matter
…families with teachers, doctors, and other professionals matter
…friends or neighbours matter
…decision-makers and the communities they serve matter.
...and, of course, conversations in the public realm and media matter.
So this National Child Protection Week we invite you to speak up – and speak together – about what needs to change for every child in every community to have a fair go.
AFL Roadshow – Next Week
