Foundation
In Performing Arts Music, students have mainly focused on loud and soft sounds through the songs What’s That Sound? and Heavy Hoofs and Twinkle Toes. In Drama, they have been playing games such as Good Morning Margaret and Good Afternoon Sir. Students have also continued to practise their 60’s dance songs Wipe Out, Surfin’ USA and Surf City.
Year One
Students have focused on pitch and melody. For example, they have examined melodies that move in different ways in the songs Rain Rain and Flowing to the Sea. In Drama, students have continued to play the games Rhythm Detective and Charades. Students have continued to practise their 90’s dance songs Mmm Bop, Backstreet’s Back and 5,6,7,8 for the concert.
Year Two
Students have focused on pitch and melody. They have created and studied two and three note melodies, as an example performing the songs If You Want and New Orleans. In Drama, students have been practising and performing Readers’ Theatre plays based on the book Flat Stanley. Students have been practising their 80’s dance songs for the concert – Footloose, Wake Me Up Before You Go – Go and It’s Like That.
Year Three
In Music, students studied pitch and pattern. Examples of this were the sounds of Drone and Scat. In Drama, they were involved in Drama exercises that involved composing and reading their own monologues. Students have been practising their 70’s dance songs for the concert – Living in the 70’s, We Will Rock You, Mamma Mia and YMCA.
Year Four
In Music students have studied Rhythms, Rhymes and Riffs. Examples are the exploration of Calypso rhythm through the songs Sloop John B and Mallacoota Time. In Drama, they have studied the skills of puppetry and performed a short play based on the book Kensuke’s Kingdom. Students have been practising their 50’s dance songs for the concert – Jailhouse Rock, Hand Jive and Rock Around the Clock.
Year Five and Six
Students have focused on Body and Beat this term. As examples, they have created and performed a song using body percussion, movement and chanting to demonstrate body music. Other xamples are the performances of the songs The Beat is The Body and Koolari Actions. In Drama students have been composing and performing their own short play based on the book Rivet Boy. They have been practising their 2020’s and 2000’s dance songs for the concert – Blue, Freestyler, Bye, Bye, Bye, Blinding Lights, Flowers, and Dance The Night.
School Concert
BRPS concert will occur on August 29th at Robert Blackwood Hall. An event has been created per year level. Please read and consent via a COMPASS note before the 27th of June, 2025.
