What have we been learning about in Physical Education?
Over the past few weeks, students from all year levels have shifted their Physical Education lessons indoors due to the chilly mornings. Our focus has been on the health components of the HPE curriculum, exploring how exercise benefits both the body and mind, along with learning about nutrition and healthy eating habits.
Junior Years: Students have been reflecting on how exercise affects their bodies and minds before, during, and after physical activity. They have gained an understanding of why exercise is essential for both physical and mental development. Additionally, they identified the different food groups and created balanced, nutritious meal plans.
Years 3 and 4: Students planned and carried out short exercise routines, observing how their bodies and minds feel at rest compared to when their heart rates are elevated. They discussed the importance of including regular exercise in their weekly routine for overall wellbeing. Their nutrition lessons focused on the five food groups, understanding how different foods affect energy levels and mood. They also researched the energy content of various foods and designed healthy meal plans.
Years 5 and 6: Building on their knowledge, students explored how team sports and exercise contribute to physical and mental health. They created promotional posters for their favourite sports or exercises, highlighting the benefits. They also learned the significance of eating a balanced diet across the five food groups to support their body and mind in reaching their full potential. Meal planning activities incorporated daily energy requirements and nutritional balance.
