Dear BRPS Community,
Our latest School Council meeting was held held on Thursday 26th June, 2025
President Laura Anderson opened the meeting with the acknowledgment of the Traditional Custodians of the land, prior to the discussion of agenda items.
The following key updates were shared by the committee and topic leaders:
Finance Committee: Cheryl Toner
- All relevant Finance reports for the month of May were accepted by School Council.
- Profit and Loss statements for the Year 6 Canberra Camp and the Election Day Sausage Sizzle.
- The most recent School Council Financial Assurance Program report was tabled and discussed. Black Rock Primary School achieved compliance across a range of
- It was noted that 2025 Parent Payment contributions are 10-15% down on historical amounts.
- School Council accepted updates to the confirmed 2025 cash budget.
Policy and Education: Emily Harvey
Emily thanked the Education Subcommittee and Councillors for their ongoing commitment and attention to detail for reviewing policies ready for presentation or endorsement at School Council meetings. The most recent policies reviewed and updated include:
- Asthma
- Attendance
- Bullying Prevention
- Student Mobile Phones and Other Devices
- Yard Duty and Supervision
Building & Grounds Committee: Sam Tyndall
Multiple VSBA-led works, routine and emergency maintenance, annual contracts and cyclical upgrades continue to progress across the school. Items of note include:
- Electrical Testing and Tagging
- Quarterly Means of Egress Audit
- Fire Marshall Audit
- Flooded classroom reinstatement.
- Tree works – tree removal adjoining OSHC multi-purpose hall, other trees pruned and cleaned up.
- Front ramp – should be completely finished and ready for access by the start of Term 3.
- Year 3 Ramp rails - scheduled for completion during July holidays
July Holiday Works List
The following works are scheduled to be undertaken
Dogs on Oval – no dogs (updated policy)
Policy implemented as of Tuesday 10th June. ‘No Dogs’ signs updated and placed at all key entrance points. Direct school community adherence to policy has been excellent. Local reports and CCTV confirm that unleashed dogs continue to come onto the school grounds out of hours, particularly weekends.
Community Engagement & Events (CEET)/Fundraising: Cass Morgan
- It was noted that the current economic and social climate presents challenges to the successful planning and organisation of traditional fundraising events.
- This was evident in the low ticket sales for the annual parent social event. School Council discussed the possibility of cancelling the event this year if minimum ticket numbers were not reached.
- The CEET is seeking to streamline operations and the number of events held
- After the successful completion of several major projects supported through local community fundraising, the next major fundraising goal for the school is yet to be determined. Consultation will take place with the school community in the second half of the year to help decide on our next goals and targets.
- Cass provided an update on the very positive progress of the whole-school concert.
Principal's Report: Sam Tyndall
- OHS Assurance Audit recently completed with a very high (96%) compliance rating - demonstrating our commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all members of our school community.
- Enrolment numbers for 2026 and trends were discussed.
- Sam reported back about the Year 4-6 'Adopt-an-Engineer' STEM program. Change of adopted engineer - thanked Serena Webster and welcomed new engineering undergraduate Elijah Harrison.
- NAPLAN preliminary cohort results - all trending positively, validation of our improvement agenda. Schools/families receive individual student reports at the start of Term 3. We're looking forward to reporting our results back to the school community in Term 3.
Additionally, we are excited to soon be launching our new school website. Thank you to school councillor, Nives Zubcevic-Basic, for all of the development work that has gone into the design and preparation of the new site.
