Principal Message

Dear Families,

Facilities: The current works are well underway and major works begin today!

  • Art program goes mobile from Year level to Year level as the roof starts to be removed and replaced
  • Air Conditioners are being decommissioned this week, and portable heaters are being delivered to keep the Prep & 1 classes warm (perhaps an extra jumper or Uggies for in class might be handy!)
  • The front entrance should be completed by the end of next week
  • Today, the path between admin and the library (towards entrance for OSH too), will be blocked off as a new ramp and steps will be built over the next few weeks.
  • Please enter via the EAST Gate on Draper St (Near staff carpark) and use the ramp from top basketball court to access the rest of the school.
  • The main gate on Draper St near the STEM room is still open.
  • Access to admin is via the Northern side doors that face the Art room and Prep buildings.

Apologies for the inconvenience but the overall result when completed, will be fantastic.

Reports: Staff are well underway with analysing the semester of work by the students and are busily writing, editing and reviewing each other’s reports. As mentioned previously, we are reporting against the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and therefore the ‘dotted growth’ on previous reports will not be shown this semester. They will reappear overtime.

Parent Teacher Interviews: Sentral will be the place to book in a meeting with your child’s classroom teacher from 5pm tomorrow, 19th June. Some larger grades will have more available time slots to cater for families so please book in. These meetings are onsite, face to face. On these nights, Specialist Teachers will also be around for you to pop in and say hello, see where your kids have various subjects and a possible quick chat with the staff. No appointment times required.

Year 3 Camp: Not long to go before the Year 3’s head down to Anglesea for their first overnight camp. Thanks to families for having clothes, sleeping bags etc all ready to go, with medication and forms sorted! Staff have done a tremendous job planning for success. Take some warm clothes kids and have a great time!

School Council: Last night we met as a Council and discussed the usual things from finance, fundraising, facilities, curriculum and much more. We will have a few updates from various actions to share in the next few weeks. Thanks to all Councillors who give up their time to help Kristy and I, continue to improve OGPS.

NAPLAN Writing: This week we received the results of NAPLAN writing, and I am so proud of the students in Year 3 & 5 of their achievements. We had some outstanding results, and I look forward to distributing results to families when they arrive. No matter how your child went in the NAPLAN tests, please celebrate their achievements, remind them that they are great at so many other things from Sport, Music, The Arts and a heap of community involvement too – all of which are NOT tested in NAPLAN time.

Pedestrian and Traffic Surveys: The Department of Transport and Planning is partnering with councils to survey traffic and pedestrian movements at various locations across Victoria to identify any road safety issues. Survey cameras will be temporarily mounted on public roads, which will be activated to cover the morning and afternoon school times. Similarly to Google Maps there will be no facial or number plate recognition and will not be placed on any school grounds. This camera technology detects movement without capturing the identity of pedestrians and vehicles.

SSB (School Savings Bonus):A reminder to families that the SSB portal will close on 30th June.  If you haven’t allocated your funds across to Activities, please go in and do that so we can access them correctly on your school account.

Statements: Statements will be going home next week, so you’ll be able to see what you owe or how much credit you have.

Again, thank you for your patience and altering your routines as various parts of the school are being worked on.

Enjoy the rest of the week!
