Foundation (Prep)

English

Students in Prep C have been focusing on reading and writing sentences. The children have been drawing on their bank of high frequency words, which they practise in their Very Useful Word Books, together with their knowledge of letter sounds. We have been practising blending these sounds and words to read and write. We have also introduced the use of capital letters at the start of a sentence at a full stop at the end.

After introducing the letter 'u', we started a little project called ‘Under my Umbrella’. Students were encouraged to write who was under their umbrella, where they were going and what they were going to do once they got there. The activity involved writing, drawing, cut and paste, finger painting and typing a published piece of work with the help of our buddies. We would like to thank Briere for visiting our classroom and offering some of her impressive drawing skills to help us bring some of our characters to life.

Maths

In Maths, we have been breaking numbers into parts. Students were shown how to start with a given number and then, using hands-on resources, see how many different ways they could break it into two parts. Some students were challenged to break their numbers into three parts.

We also had fun making robots. The class revisited number bonds to ten, or as we call them in class, Friends of 10. On our robots, students were encouraged to record one of the pairs of numbers they can use to make ten.

The Big Freeze

Miss Black has done it again! Thank you for organising another fabulous event to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). MND attacks the nerve cells that control the muscles to move, speak, swallow and breathe. Each year, as I meet new families, it highlights just how many people this disease affects. It was wonderful to see the school community come together to raise money for such an important cause.

Thank you to the students for continuing to dig deep and give their best effort in their learning this term. It is now time to enjoy a well-earned rest over the school holidays.

Play safely and have fun!
