Vocation Education
and Training
Earlier this Term, many of our Year 12 VET students completed their final work placement for their HSC course. This is a significant milestone for all students as it marks the completion of the 70 required hours and ticks off a HSC requirement. We thank all local businesses for supporting our work placement students throughout their courses.
Our Construction students reflected on their work placement:
Levi McGill went to Fully Charged Electrics and said he enjoyed working with a great staff and fitted a range of accessories to all kinds of vehicles, including UHF radios, Dash Cameras, and Spotlights. He spent a considerable time learning to solder and wire these accessories into the vehicles.
Jesse Ross went to BJ Hodge Construction and said he spent most of his week learning how large sheds were constructed from site preparation, foundation work, framing and cladding.
Griffin Hailstone went to Harmers Plumbing, where he learnt a range of skills from fixing minor leaks to working on new homes and installing a number of fittings.
Ashton Richardson said he really enjoyed his work placements, where he found the skills he learnt were incredibly valuable to his learning. He really enjoyed working with a range of staff at Crockers Auto Electrical.
Xavier Ahern went to Powers Insulation and Plumbing and said it was a great learning experience for him where he worked with some great people and learnt a heap of new skills and built on the skills learnt in his HSC Construction course.
Our Constructions students were also asked what they enjoy about undertaking a VET course, specifically their Construction course:
Nicholas Woods “I really like getting out of the classroom, into the workshop and practical learning space. It is really beneficial for me as a learner. I enjoy learning real world skills that I can use later in life.”
Sidney McDonnell “Learning new skills that I can use throughout my life and gaining a qualification while I'm still at school.”
Riley Phegan “Gaining knowledge that I can use in my career later in life and being confident with how to use a range of hand and power tools.”
Daniel Blanche “Gaining a certificate so that my learning at school is applicable to my learning outside of school and when I can get a job or apprenticeship.”
Our Construction students were asked about what skills, projects and activities they enjoyed about their VET course, they said:
Griffin Hailstone “learning all about concrete, how to do it and how it works, trowelling, and site prep.”
Hunter Halden “learning how to use a range of tools and machines that we can only use in this Construction course. My favourites so far have been the drop saw, walsall and track saw.”
Nicholas Woods “I really liked concreting and pour a slab down at the Ag Plot, Especially the site preparation, string lines and setting up the boxing for the slab.”
Tom Wichman “I have enjoyed making the saw horse as it has really highlighted the need to be really accurate and working and communicating in peers.”
