Year 1

During Reconciliation Week, our classes engaged in a variety of meaningful and educational activities designed to deepen our understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. One of the highlights was listening to the story Welcome to Country by Aunty Joy Murphy and Lisa Kennedy, which gave us valuable insight into the importance of acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the land we live and learn on. This story helped us reflect on the significance of respect, history, and connection to Country.
We also spent time exploring the diverse histories of Indigenous Australians and discussed the ongoing importance of Reconciliation Week. As a creative response to our learning, we each designed and painted leaves inspired by traditional Indigenous art, symbols, and storytelling techniques. These unique and colourful leaves were then brought together to create classroom displays that not only showcases our learning, but also serves as a daily reminder of the values of respect, empathy, and togetherness within our school community.
Kind Regards,
