Year 6

Term 2, 2025

Reconciliation Week

During Reconciliation Week, our Year 6 students engaged in a range of thoughtful activities to deepen their understanding of Australia’s shared history and the importance of reconciliation. Through informative videos from Behind the News (BTN) and guided class discussions, students explored the significance of this national week and why it is recognised across the country.

The theme for this year, “Now More Than Ever – Bridging Now to Next,” inspired students to reflect on the past, acknowledge the truth of our history, and consider how we can move forward together in unity. They learned that reconciliation is not just about the past, but about building respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians into the future.

As part of their learning, students participated in a range of classroom activities that encouraged empathy, curiosity, and understanding. These included reflective discussions, exploring Indigenous perspectives, and considering ways they can be part of positive change.

Year 6s showed great maturity and compassion as they discussed important topics and recognised the role we all play in shaping a more inclusive and united future.
