Double Win for VETiS Students at WorldSkills Nationals

Ishika S & Liam J
Ishika S & Liam J

We’re proud to celebrate not just one, but two outstanding achievements at the recent 2025 WorldSkills National Championships in Brisbane, held 12-14 June. Representing Victoria on the national stage, two of our students, Liam J and Ishika S (Year 12), earned gold and bronze medals in the VETiS Information Technology category program.

VETiS is a Vocational Education and Training in Schools program that is based on the VCE subject of VET Information & Communications Technology. This subject aligns to the Units of Competency contained in the ICT30120 Certificate III in Information Technology qualification that is offered as an ATAR-scored subject to Year 10 & 11 students.

These students were selected to represent the state after demonstrating exceptional skill, knowledge, and dedication in their studies. Competing among the country’s top young tech minds, for 16 hours over 3 days, they rose to the occasion with confidence and determination.

Gold medallist Liam Jenkins impressed the judges with exceptional technical precision and a calm, collected approach. Ishika Saxena earned bronze through creative thinking and strong execution under pressure.

These victories showcase not only their individual talent but also the power of vocational education to build real-world skills and pathways to industry success.

Huge congratulations to both medallists and everyone who played a role in this amazing journey.

Rostrum Voice of Youth: State Champion

Congratulations to Mia P (Year 10), who won the 2025 Rostrum Voice of Youth Competition!

After winning both her heat and the south-eastern metropolitan semi-final, Mia joined the other top speakers from across Victoria at the State Final of the Rostrum Voice of Youth competition.

The competition requires students to present both a prepared persuasive speech on one of five topics, and a short-notice impromptu speech with 15 minutes preparation. Mia spoke on ‘unravelling the truth’, presenting a passionate warning on the dangers posed by cheap online shopping through platforms like Temu and Wish, and an impromptu speech on ‘the best things in life are free’ and the need to value the small things in life.

Rostrum is the oldest public speaking organisation in Australia, and the Voice of Youth is one of the largest competitions in the country, and Mia is the first Huntingtower student to win the senior division. She has now been invited to represent Victoria in the National Final of the Rostrum Voice of Youth, which will be held in Adelaide next term. We congratulate Mia on her huge accomplishment, and wish her luck with her future public speaking!

On Thursday 15 May, a team of five Huntingtower students, Nick H, Ishaan A, Jamie C, Erik W-C and Goran G, proudly represented the EISM at the 2025 Tennis Victoria Schools Championships, held at Dendy Park Tennis Club. This was the first time a competition of this standard had taken place, bringing together some of the most talented school players in the state.

The boys competed in an elite round robin tennis competition, playing both singles and doubles matches against four different schools, including one prestigious tennis academy. It was a full day of high intensity matches, and our team displayed outstanding skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout.

Huntingtower secured three impressive wins out of four matches, including two commanding 6–0 victories. Their exceptional teamwork and high-level performance earned them the runner-up title in what was a tough competitive tournament.

A huge thank you to Danielle, Huntingtower’s tennis coach, for her guidance, encouragement, and support on the day.

Congratulations to our players on this outstanding achievement, we are incredibly proud of your efforts.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an internationally recognised program that aims to address the social, educational and employment challenges faced by today’s youth. It empowers young people aged 14 to 25 to explore their full potential, while enhancing their future educational and employment opportunities.

Students work progressively through the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of the Award, participating in four key areas: Physical Recreation, Skill Development, Voluntary Service and an Adventurous Journey involving planning, training, and completion of both a practice and qualifying expedition.

Each level requires an increased commitment to regular participation with Bronze 3 months, Silver 6 months and Gold 12 months. The Adventurous Journeys also increase in difficulty, ranging from 2 days and 1 night at Bronze level to 4 days and 3 nights at Gold.

Basketball Success

Over the King’s Birthday weekend, I played in the 2025 National Junior Classic in Melbourne. This prestigious tournament brings together the best 128 junior teams from all over Australia, competing in age groups from Under-12 to Under-18, across both boys’ and girls’ divisions.

We played six intense games over three days, which was both physically and mentally challenging. The atmosphere was filled with excitement with crowds cheering us on. Before the Grand Final, every player was introduced one by one – a thrilling moment, making it more special.

We finished second, and I’m really proud of our team. It was an unforgettable experience. In September, there will be the Victoria Championship and the National Club Championship and I’m ready and excited to bring back the title!
