Kindness is Contagious

Tanya Vaughan, Deputy Principal - Head of Primary

During His time in ministry, Jesus spent a great deal of time telling stories – stories that would enable all who listened to learn more about the character and nature of God, the Kingdom of heaven and the life that we, his children, are called to live. He spent a lot of time talking about and demonstrating love and kindness to others, emphasising to us the importance of growing Godly character.

2000 + years on, we are still sharing this important message with our students (and reminding ourselves along the way) – a message of love, grace, generosity, empathy and kindness. Kindness is what we want to see spreading like wildfire in and amongst our community, as Kindness is Contagious!

Have you stopped and noticed how good you feel when someone extends a random act of kindness to you? The joy of the surprise, the warm fuzzy feeling, the sense of overwhelm which can wash over you? Have you noticed how the act of kindness can in turn prompt you to extend kindness to others?

  • Kindness – a simple act of showing love, grace, generosity, empathy or consideration towards another person.
  • Kindness – often coming by surprise, without the expectation of anything in return.
  • Kindness – the giving of one’s time and talent.
  • Kindness – thinking about others for the greater good.

As we continue to reflect upon God’s grace to our school community in our 50th Year of Christian Education at Donvale, our deep hope is that our students will be a living example of being a blessing to others through our 50 Acts of Kindness initiative, remembering the words from Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give, than to receive”.

As a Primary School, we have launched a Kindness Initiative to end our term, asking every student to bring in a box of breakfast cereal, which will be collectively presented to the CEO of Foothills Community Care, Stephen Barrington at our Worship Assembly next Tuesday.

But before we present the boxes of cereal, we want to do something fun and exciting which will create a memory for our students as we consider the ‘domino affect’ that kindness has as it spreads from one person to another through our Breakfast Cereal Domino Challenge. No doubt your children will tell you all about it once it’s done!

To those who have purchased a box of cereal to send in, thank you! It’s not too late to contribute to this, and we truly value your support of this Kindness Initiative.

Let’s be a community that celebrates the acts of kindness which are contagious!
