Hats, Hats, Hats

It has been wonderful to see how quickly our students have returned to their SunSmart ways and are wearing their hats for outdoor activities. As we all know, living in Australia, the UV rating can be in the high rating even on the cloudiest of days.

Olympics fun around the school

It has been wonderful to see different year levels acknowledging the Olympics in different ways. Our year 2 students had an Olympics based incursion, our prep and year 6 students had a buddy Olympics session, there has been an exploration of the different sports in the Olympics, examination of the literary devices used in media headlines and much, much more.

Student focus groups

In the past week I have interviewed and surveyed over 100 students from Prep to Year 6 as part of an inclusivity audit of our school. We are looking to see whether all students, regardless of race, ability or gender feel welcome, safe and supported within our school environment. We have also been working with our SRC and positive behaviour leaders to gather student voice regarding our bullying prevention policy, our student dress code policy and our home learning policy. These students will be speaking to our school council next week to share their findings.

Staff Development – High Quality Planning

At Kingswood, we take pride in how collaboratively our teachers work together as part of our team culture. Over the past two weeks our leadership coach, Noelle Burdekin, has observed all our teams’ planning sessions. She provided individual feedback to the teams and general feedback to our School Improvement Team. We are really pleased to see that there has been an improvement in our whole school understanding of what constitutes high quality planning and the focus on what students already know, what they need to know and effective ways to support this learning.

Child Safe Standards

As part of our commitment to being a Child Safe organisation all our staff have completed modules of learning on protecting children so that they understand their responsibility and duty of care in relation to mandatory reporting if there are suspicions or disclosures of child abuse. In addition, to this there are a range of policies available on our school website related to child safety which parents can access at their convenience.

Student Sporting Spotlight

We wish Jack from 4P all the very best as he represents Team Victoria in the School Sports Australia diving events in Adelaide next week.
