Year 10 Careers Camp

At 7.30 on Wednesday 25 June the Year 10 students headed off to Melbourne for their annual 3 day Careers Camp.

Accommodation for the camp was at Melbourne University Residency – Ormond College.  Ormond College allows students to experience life as a university student, eating in the food hall, and using the bedrooms, bathrooms and common rooms.

During the 3 days students visited a variety of businesses in and around Melbourne and Bendigo such as:

Monash University, Thales (Bendigo), Bendigo TAFE, LCI Institute, Academy of Interactive Entertainment, William Angliss, Elly Lucas, Master Builders Association, JMC Academy, The Big Issue, Deakin University, Melbourne Cricket Education Academy, Carlton College of Sport, Automotive Centre of Excellence, Kangan Institute – Fashion/Design, University of Melbourne, Hotel School of Melbourne, Channel 9 News, Headmasters, Clarke Hopkins Clarke, Victorian Parliament, RMIT,  Metro Tunnel, Whitehouse Institute of Design, Victorian Police, Richmond Football Club, Australian Catholic University.

Highlights over the 3 days were:

  • the visit to Thales where students were able to see first hand production of the Bush Master and Hawkeye that were used by the military
  • visits to the Richmond and Carlton Football Clubs
  • Headmasters where a facial was the order of the day!

Ice skating was also a hit with many of the students but perhaps the overall highlight was the theatre production Wicked for the lucky 40 students who attended - “the most amazing experience of my life, it was wonderful!”

All in all, a wonderful three days were spent in Melbourne assisting students in finding a pathway into their chosen career.

LMR Senior Basketball

Last Friday our Girls and Boys Senior Basketball Teams competed in the Loddon Mallee Region (LMR) Basketball Competition at Echuca Basketball Stadium.

Our senior girls put in a gallant effort but ultimately lost by 9 points to a fierce Marist College in their first game.

In their subsequent match against Mildura Senior Secondary, the team triumphed by over 20 points, ending the day as Runners-Up.

Congratulations girls!

The senior boys basketball team showcased their grit and skill in a thrilling tournament. In their first game, they fought hard but narrowly lost by just two points in a tightly contested match. Undeterred, they rallied for their next game and delivered a dominant performance, securing a comfortable win. Key players Cody Walker and Solly Fleming played pivotal roles, demonstrating leadership and talent on both offense and defense.

As the tournament progressed, the team grew stronger with each game, learning valuable lessons and building confidence. Their journey exemplifies determination, teamwork, and a relentless pursuit of success on the court.

Looking ahead, the senior boys basketball team is focused on continuing their momentum and achieving their goals in future tournaments. Their performance not only inspires their school community but also underscores their commitment to excellence in high school athletics.

Junior & Intermediate Girls Football - Campaspe

Our Junior & Intermediate Girls Football teams headed to Nathalia this week to compete in the Campaspe competition and oh what fun they had!

The junior girls came out strong from the start against Kyabram, kicking a bag of goals with Jada as best on and Evee booting an impressive 4 goals in 4 minutes!

In game 2 against Rochy, the girls continued their winning streak by working as a team. Lucy kicked 5 goals with a great cartwheel celebration and captain Lily showcased her skills using her opposite foot to kick a couple of goals.

In the 3rd round against St Augs we secured another solid win. Sadie shone as one of our best in the midfield going hard at the ball in every contest. Abbey was also strong up forward running rings around the opposition.

SMOTA was our last opponent for the day in warm conditions and the girls were starting to tire. But the pocket rockets of the team - Quinn, Willow, Julia and Indi, fought hard to keep us in the game and we finished the day undefeated!

Our Intermediate girls also proved too strong for the competition with only 1 goal scored against them all day.

Eliza, Aysha, Beth and Zoe kicked multiple goals, while Lillie starred in the ruck.

Maddie, Beth, Chloe, Shaylah and Lacey were also dominant all day.

All players worked hard and their team work was sensational. Their ball movement, transition and attack were elite as they destroyed the other teams.

A special mention to Coby’s acrobatic celebration after her first goal with multiple flips through the forward line!

Congratulations to each and every girl who took to the field and gave it their all to represent the school in an exemplary manner.

Both teams are excited to progress to the LMR in Swan Hill next week!

LMR Year 8 Girls Soccer

Last Friday our Year 8 Girls competed in the LMR soccer at Jack Eddy Oval in Moama.

Despite the windy and freezing cold conditions the girls showed great determination and team work in both games.

Chelsea S was a stand out all day with her encouragement and talk on the ground and directing the play, while Lily D also ran hard all day and contested every ball.

Unfortunately, we were unable to walk away with a win at the end of the day but each and every team member played their role well and should be very proud of their efforts!

State Cross Country

Yarra Glen turned out some authentic winter cross country conditions for our students competing at State last week with mud at every turn, steep climbs and gloomy skies.

Our students had a task ahead of them as they tackled the 3km or 5km course but all students conquered their distance with pure grit and determination!

There were 3 top 15 finishes with Benji Carfoot (2nd), Ky Henson (11th) and Mila Palmer (13th).

What an incredible achievement at a state level with over 100 competitors in most races!

All students are to be commended on their efforts, crossing the line cold and covered in mud - they all did their best and we’re very proud of them!
