Principal's Report

"The future depends on what you do today." - Mahatma Gandhi

The importance of each school day is highlighted by Gandi’s quote.  Every student, every day, in every way contributes to their own future and ours as a society. It is therefore important to remember the importance of attending school every day. We are currently seeing a number of winter illnesses affecting students and staff. Try to ensure good eating and sleeping habits are in place as a first line of defence against these winter bugs. We need to look after each other and stay healthy.

Year 12 Milestone Celebration

On Friday 26 July, our Year 12 students marked the '50 days remaining' milestone with a fun Pyjama Day. This is a celebration of their years of formal schooling coming to a close. It was wonderful to see our students embracing this significant moment by utilising the Senior Centre before school and making the most of their final days at school.

VCE Languages

Our VCE Languages students have been exceptionally proactive, using their weekends to engage in a French poetry competition and attend a seminar to enhance their preparation for upcoming oral and written exams. Their dedication exemplifies the commitment we see across our school. It is a wonderful reminder of how our French and Japanese language exchanges have added to our students’ passions for language. I am sure that the Olympics in Paris has added another dimension as well.

Extra-Curricular Engagement

It is fantastic to witness our students enthusiastically participating in a wide array of extra-curricular activities. From exploring hospitality through our Micro-credentials program to competing in the Beauy Bake Off and attending our Astronomy Night, our students are truly making the most of the opportunities available to them. There is something for everyone, and if there isn’t, students can advocate to teachers for it and make it happen. These activities thrive thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff.

GOAL P/S/T Conferences

This week's Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences provided valuable opportunities for families to connect with GOAL Mentors. These meetings are pivotal in our collective effort to ensure every student achieves their full potential. Your child’s GOAL Mentor knows them as learners and are a great resource in subject selection discussions.

Year 11 Formal

The Year 11 Formal on Friday 2 August was a very classy event. Our students looked incredible, and the success of the evening was a testament to the hard work of the student organisers. This shared experience will bring students closer together as a year level.

Pyjama Day

Following our Year 12 Pyjama Day, the whole school participated in a Pyjama Day to support The Pyjama Foundation, benefiting children in foster care. I am pleased to announce we raised a total of $520.60 for this worthy cause.

Student Leadership Conference

On July 30, our student leaders came together in the MCC Pavilion to reflect on their achievements from Term 1 and set achievable goals for Semester 2. We were also excited to welcome student leaders from our local primary schools, fostering collaboration and shared learning.

Year 10 Wellbeing Day

Our Year 10 students participated in an enriching Wellbeing Day on Monday, focusing on important topics such as safe partying, drugs and alcohol awareness, and sex education and consent. The day also included engaging activities such as cooking, mindfulness drawing and a sports round-robin, ensuring both learning and enjoyment for all.

House Athletics Carnival

Over the last fortnight, our students have had the opportunity to watch moments from the Olympics during lunch breaks, celebrating the incredible achievements of athletes from around the world. Hopefully, these inspiring feats can motivate and energise our students as we look forward to our House Athletics Carnival on Monday, 12 August. This event is a highlight on the BSC calendar, and all students are expected to attend.

Accident Insurance

Parents/carers are reminded that:

  • Parents/carers of students who do not have student accident insurance, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance or transport, as well as any other transport costs; and
  • Parents/carers can purchase insurance policies from commercial insurers.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in making Beaumaris Secondary College a thriving community.
