Local Basketball Opportunities

With Hoop Time kicking off this term, it is the perfect time to consider joining a local team. The summer domestic season is just around the corner, and runs through Term Four, 2024, and Term One, 2025, and new teams are formed now in Term Three. Please see the attached local teams list for teams competing in local competitions:

Under 8’s Basketball

There are also local opportunities for children as young as Under 8’s to begin playing basketball:

Skill Development Opportunities

There are a variety of local skill development programs ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Whether your child is just starting out or looking to refine their skills, there is a program for everyone. Details of these programs can be found via the above websites.

Some local opportunities include:

What is Representative Basketball?

Representative basketball is a step above the domestic level, offering more intense coaching and training. It requires a higher level of commitment and involves a trial process to join a team. This is an opportunity for juniors who have a passion for basketball and want to compete at a higher level. The associations listed above (Keilor, Westgate, Coburg and Broadmeadows) all compete in the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) with representative teams.

Tryouts for rep basketball usually occur early in Term 4. Each club has its own schedule and registration process for trials, so it’s important to check their websites and social media for specific dates and information. A quick Google search will provide you with the latest updates from each club.

So many fantastic opportunities to be a part of the basketball community this summer! Get involved, stay active, and most importantly, have fun.
