Year Six

Chinese Museum Excursion and City Walking Tour

Last Friday, the Year Six students caught the bus into the city to experience a tour of the Chinese Museum, a guided walking tour of the city and to explore the Sandridge bridge. The excursion was to support our inquiries in our 'Where We Are in Place and Time' unit of inquiry with the central idea 'Nations evolve through migration'.

Students were able to apply their learning about the Waves of Migration. The excursion was an in depth look into the growth and development of Melbourne's infrastructure and how migration has contributed to Melbourne being the fastest growing city in Australia. They enjoyed learning about the impacts of Chinese migration during the Gold Rush and more modern reasons for migrating. During the walking tour we learnt about historical landmarks including the Women’s Hospital, the arcades, Chinese restaurants and old warehouses. On Sandridge bridge, students were able to make connections to countries of significance within their family and identify different waves of migration to Melbourne.
