Year One

Shapes and Objects

Recently the Year Ones have been exploring two-dimensional polygons and three-dimensional objects. We have had a lot of fun exploring the different properties of these shapes and deepening our understanding of shapes and the vocabulary we can use to describe and compare them.

Some of our experiences have included:

  • Going on shape hunts in the classroom and around the school
  • Connecting shapes to real world examples
  • Extending our language to describe shapes
  • Combining shapes to create new shapes
  • Exploring the different types of triangles
  • Describing quadrilaterals; knowing the different shapes that have four sides and four corners
  • Understanding and identifying prisms and pyramids
