ENPS Young Writers’ Competition 2024
The purpose of the ENPS Young Writers’ Competition is to encourage students to explore their imagination and creativity through writing. To express thoughts, feelings, and ideas and provide a platform for our students to share their unique perspectives with others.

Being Bold, Brave and/or Connected (choose 1, 2 or all 3 to inspire your story)
Don’t forget to give your story a creative title!

Entries open: Friday 26th of July
Entry deadline: Friday 13th of September
Who Can Enter
Any Essendon North Primary School student
Entry is free (only one entry per student)
Rules
Connection to theme
Your story must relate to the theme in some way
Originality
Your story must be a new and original story (no assistance from parents, teachers, AI etc.) and should not infringe on any copyrights.
Stories are a work of fiction; however, can be based on a true life event.
Your story must be unpublished and cannot have been entered into another writing competition.
Appropriateness
Entries must not be offensive or rude (a little bit cheeky is fine), contain strong language, strong violence or unnecessary gore.
Word limit
- Mini short story competition
- 15 words
- Midi story competition
- 50 words or less
- Maxi story competition
- Up to 500 words
Entry Process
- Entries open on Friday 26th of July
- Entrants may enter into 1 section only
- Entries can be typed or handwritten on A4 paper
- Stories may be illustrated; however, this is not a requirement
- Entries are to be handed to your classroom teacher with a completed entry slip (found on the final page of the attachment below)
- Entrants will receive a receipt of entry form to acknowledge your entry
- Entries will be judged by a panel of judges from the ENPS teaching staff
- Entries close on the 13th of September at 5pm
- Winners will be announced on the 11th of October at our Friday assembly
Prizes
Every entrant will receive a Certificate of Achievement for their effort and all entries will be published in a digital book which will be available on Compass in Term Four.
There is one prize for each of the 3 story sections at each year level (F, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) = Prize pool of 21 winners. The winner of each category will receive a prize pack consisting of a stationery pack plus a $10 book club voucher.
All winning entries will have their story published in the ENPS Writing Competition 2024 book and entrants will receive a copy of the book as part of their prize.
