Golden Tickets, Ensemble Performances and Lost Fish!
Term 3 in the Broadley Performing Arts Centre has never been busier. On Tuesday 6 August we had technical rehearsals for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at one end of the centre and choreography rehearsals for Finding Nemo JR at the other!
Prior to the commencement of Term 3, the Senior Vocal Ensemble performed in a community concert organised by the Ringwood Salvation Army Band to raise funds for the Cancer Council. The guest soloist was Dr Brett Baker, a trombonist from the UK, who was accompanied by the Ringwood Salvation Army Brass Band. Our Senior Vocal Ensemble delighted the packed church with a variety of styles, including Abba’s SOS (complete with moves), Eva Cassidy’s Songbird and the 80s classic Celebration, complete with vocal percussion. A beautiful rendition of Whitney Houston’s I Look To You also led in to a beautiful time of reflection where the audience were invited to light a candle.
The term started with the Senior Music Assembly, where all our Senior Music Ensembles performed for Senior students and staff. There was a wide variety of instrumentation, voices and music styles on display, from Holst and Morricone to Europe and Pentatonix. The assembly concluded with the Senior Concert Band performing the A-ha hit, Take On Me. The skills of our musicians were appreciated by all in attendance.
We have had a photo day where every ensemble was photographed, as well as the cast of our Senior Production. Families will be contacted when these can be purchased.
At the time of writing this report, the cast and crew of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory had just completed two dress rehearsals for the Junior School. The young audience were totally invested in the story and gasp of pure joy when Charlie found the golden ticket was audible and visible. The students and Production Team are to be congratulated on such a high quality, fun and emotive show; if there any tickets left, immerse yourself in Pure Imagination. A full report will be shared in the next issue of The Vine.
Rehearsal Photos
Finding Nemo JR rehearsals for the Junior School are now in full swing. The students are working hard to learn their songs and choreography, invested in sharing the messages of Just Keep Swimming and Go With The Flow. Our Year 6 lead cast are well into extra rehearsals for scenes and songs, costume letters are going home, with tickets going on sale soon.
Coming up on Friday 30 August, we are hosting the Intermediate Concert Band from The Friends School in Hobart. They will be in Melbourne for the Victorian Schools Music Festival and will be conducting a workshop with our Year 7 Band. There will also be an opportunity for our students to also share in a performance.
We are only at the end of Week 3, so much more to come from Music and Drama!
