Principal's Report
Dear Parents/Guardians and friends of Nazareth
The past two weeks have been extremely exciting, with the successful hosting of our school reviewers and the fantastic news of our $3.6 million dollar grant from the State Government to build our new Student Hub.
The College review is broken down into four days. The first day is devoted towards ensuring the school meets all of the compliance expectations. The next two days are days where the reviewers test to see if everything we have written up and in place transpires. This is completed via conversations with students, parents and staff members. With the evidence supplied, they ensure what we have planned is enacted. Finally, they report back on the College's strengths and future recommendations on the last day. Many of the reports and feedback suggest that the College is doing exceptionally well and that some of the recommendations will assist us in our future endeavours to continue to improve.
On Tuesday, 6 August, The Honourable Ben Carroll – Minister for Education, and our local member of parliament, Eden Foster MP, visited Nazareth College. The Victorian Labour government has granted Nazareth $3.6 million towards our proposed Student Hub. We hope that the new Student Hub becomes the central location for students where their needs can be addressed. The area will include Students Services, First Aid/Health Centre, The Wellbeing Centre, Reflection Rooms, Careers Counselling, Canteen, the Year 12 Common area and additional classrooms, together with a lift so that the school has clear accessibility to all of the third level classrooms.
Both the Leadership Team and our College Captains hosted our guests during this visit and conducted a tour around the College grounds. They represented the College very well.
This visit gave me the opportunity to thank the government ministers for their support and also highlight the day to day running of the College. I was able to express the families' appreciation and their joy when we announced the funding of the grant. Evidently, this grant will assist many current and future families in providing Nazareth students with the best learning facilities and programs.
We had fantastic results at the Aeroschools State Championships (run by Gymnastics Victoria). Nine out of our competing 11 students qualified for Nationals across five teams. Following is where we placed:
- 1st place - Division A Lower Secondary Team: Alexandra Surenian, Larissa Pitruzzello, Shanaya Patel, Lilly Goggin, Lillie Esmonde and Tyneisha Fernandez;
- 1st place - Division B Upper Secondary Multiple: Alicia Rasool, Holly Gravell and Chantelle Pitruzzello;
- 1st place - Division A Lower Secondary Multiple: Alexandra Surenian and Larissa Pitruzzello;
- 4th place - Division 2 Aerodance: Alexandra Surenian, Larissa Pitruzzello, Shanaya Patel, Lilly Goggin, Alicia Rasool, Holly Gravell, Chantelle Pitruzzello and Lillie Esmonde;
- Division C Lower Secondary Multiple: Alexa Doyle, Maya Monteith (Yr 7s) competed in their first State Qualifier event and performed an energetic and outstanding performance.
Congratulations to all our students who attended and performed so well.
On Tuesday 6 August our entire College staff attended a Memorial Mass in honour of Mrs Mary Thisgaard. It was a way to acknowledge her workplace and her impact on many young people whom she taught and cared for. May She Rest in Peace.
God Bless, and thank you for your support.
Mr Sam Cosentino
