A note from Mr Jackson

Respectful, Safe, Engaged
There is not more an important time than the start of the year to remind our parent community the departments central values of be respectful, safe and engaged. These values should shape our interactions and conversations as we model what community should look and feel like.
Respectful
knowing the school’s rules and supporting them at home.
modelling respectful behaviour in how you speak to and about school staff, families, and others both in person and online.
making use of the school’s processes to raise and resolve concerns early.
Safe
working together with staff if your child is having problems at school to understand and resolve the issue.
ensuring your child knows it is okay to ask for help from a trusted adult at school.
ensuring your child stays safe online by talking with them and addressing concerns early.
Engaged
helping your child to attend school every day – every day counts.
communicating with school staff and working together to support your child’s learning and wellbeing.
talking with your child about their day and how they are feeling, and encouraging their learning by noticing their effort and progress.
I encourage all parents to embrace these values in all that you do. Please ensure that conversations with others whether they be with each other, members of staff or with children are calm, respectful and always safe.
Deluge Arrived
Tuesday 24 February
On Tuesday our school experienced an intense downpour that overwhelmed the local council storm drains causing localised flooding in several areas. While this unexpected event disrupted some classes and limited access to Chandler Hall, we are relieved to report that damage was minimal and no one was harmed. Our priority throughout was the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.
We have been working closely with the Banyule Council and the Department to ensure all affected areas are thoroughly cleaned and dried. A small section of carpet in the music room was impacted and is currently being dried and assessed. We appreciate everyone’s patience while we complete these remedial steps and will keep you updated if any further access changes are required.
To minimize disruption to our performing arts program while the music room carpet dries, music and performing arts classes will temporarily meet in alternate spaces. Teachers will communicate any temporary room assignments directly to students and families, and we thank our staff and students for their flexibility and cooperation during this short-term adjustment.
What’s coming up!
FORPS Welcome Back Picnic
Friday 27 February
We are excited to remind you about the Welcome Back Barbecue on Friday evening. This relaxed community gathering is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect. The evening will include a community mural and informal sports using school equipment, great ways for parents and children to participate together. Bring a picnic blanket or chair and some light snacks if you can. Sausages and refreshments will be available, and families are warmly invited to join in the fun. If you are able to help, please email Megan to volunteer, sharing roles across many hands makes these events run smoothly.
