Our opening school Mass was a joyful and uplifting way to celebrate our new school year, bringing our community together in faith and celebration. We warmly welcomed Father Andrew, our new parish priest, and families and parishioners were heartened by the reverence shown by our students and their active, respectful engagement throughout the Mass. The sense of connection, joy and shared purpose was apparent, setting a beautiful tone for our year ahead.

On Ash Wednesday our Year 5/6 students attended the Parish Mass. Following Mass, as our school leaders they returned to school with the ashes and distributed these among the children and staff in class prayer services.

School Advisory Council (SAC)

Walking Together as Partners in Our School Community

Our School Advisory Council (SAC) is an important way we walk together as families, staff, leadership and parish in the life of Holy Rosary School. The SAC is advisory in nature, offering an opportunity for parent voice, perspective and wisdom to support the ongoing growth and wellbeing of our school.

We are currently inviting expressions of interest from parents who would like to contribute to Holy Rosary School in collaborative, respectful and purposeful ways.

What does the SAC do?

  • Provides advice and feedback to the principal
  • Represents the voices and experiences of our parent community
  • Supports reflection, planning and community priorities
  • Strengthens partnership between home and school

The SAC does not manage day-to-day operations or individual concerns. It focuses on school priorities and helps inform the decisions that impact families, children, parish and community.

Walking together means valuing diverse voices

We are especially keen to ensure our council reflects the richness of our community. We welcome parents of all backgrounds and we seek a balance of:

  • gender
  • cultural diversity
  • skills, experiences and perspectives (including communication, organisation, community connection, wellbeing, finance, planning or experience as a parent.)

You do not need previous committee experience, just a willingness to listen, share respectfully and work in partnership.

Flexible ways to be involved

We understand that families have different capacities at different times. In addition to SAC membership, parents may choose to be involved through short-term working groups, formed around specific areas such as:

  • wellbeing or community connection
  • events or celebrations (such as our 110 year birthday this year)
  • consultation or feedback (for example on child safety, parent teacher interviews or prep induction)
  • Fundraising (children would love a Colour Run)

These groups are time-limited and no prior experience is required.

Requirements for involvement

To ensure the safety of our community, SAC members are required to:

  • hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • sign the Code of Conduct for SAC Members

An invitation

Being part of the SAC is a way of walking alongside HR, contributing your voice, and helping shape a community where all are known, valued and supported.

If you are interested or would like to learn more we warmly invite you to get in touch.

For further information about the SAC, the Terms of reference, Code of Conduct or the SAC Manual, please visit our website, pop in for a chat, or talk to a SAC member. Our current members are Laura Cochrane (Chair), Chris Church (Secretary) Brad Pingle, Eshan Sachin Arya, Maria Sedunary (principal representative), Father Andrew Jekot and myself.

Thank you for considering how you might walk with us.

Calendar Updates

We have added a number of new dates to our school calendar in this newsletter. This includes the date for Eucharist celebrations and our athletics carnival, held in Term 2 this year. Please note that there is no public holiday for Anzac Day and Monday 27 April is not a student free day.

Prep Survey

The office sent a brief parent survey to Prep families late last week. I’d really appreciate it if you could share your feedback with us.

Prep 2027

Our first tour for prospective Prep parents was held last Thursday. I encourage current families to submit documentation promptly so that your children are included in our count before we offer places to new families. On another note, in 2027 we will begin referring to our Prep classes as Foundation.

Inform and Empower

Don’t forget to register for the Inform and Empower Parent Cyber Safety Session. Full details in Administration.

I hope you enjoy the sunny days ahead,
