Class Prayer Cloths and Crosses - Preps, Year 1 & 2

We would like to share with you the prayer cloths and crosses created by the Preps and Year 1/2 classes.

The class teachers led discussions with their students to decide on the symbols, colours and words to be included on the prayer cloths and crosses.

The prayer cloths and crosses were blessed by Fr Darien during the Beginning of the School Year Mass last Friday.

They are respectfully being used during class prayer and meditation.

Next week the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 classes will share their prayer cloths and crosses.

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday mark the start of Lent, the 40-day journey to Easter.

The meaning of shrove is to confess sins and receive absolution. Shrove Tuesday is also commonly known as Pancake Tuesday. On this day, families traditionally cooked pancakes to use up their rich foods like milk, eggs, butter and sugar in preparation for fasting during Lent.

Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent. On Ash Wednesday, many Christians attend Mass or a prayer liturgy and are marked with an ash cross. The cross is either marked on the forehead or sprinkled on top of the head. Ash Wednesday is known as a day of prayer and abstinence, meaning spending time with God and making an effort to give up something or do something kind for others.

If you are available, you are most welcome to attend the Ash Wednesday Mass with the Year One to Six students and staff on Wednesday 18th February in the church at 10.00 am. We will be marked with the ash cross during the liturgy. The Prep students will be marked with their ash cross when they are at school on Thursday 19th February.
