Celebrations in Our Community
I would like to start by wishing our entire school community a very happy Lunar New Year! As we gallop into the Year of the Horse, a year associated with energy, warmth, and intelligence, it is wonderful to see our families celebrating such vibrant traditions. At the same time, I would like to extend our very best wishes to our Muslim families as they begin the holy month of Ramadan. To those embarking on this period of reflection, prayer, and community: Ramadan Mubarak. May the month ahead be one of peace and fulfilment for you and your loved ones.
Investing in Excellence
Thank you to the many families who have already made their school contributions this year. Your support is deeply valued and plays a critical role in the strength and richness of our educational program. Parent contributions are not simply an administrative formality; they are a powerful investment in the quality of learning experiences we are able to provide for every child at Mitcham Primary School.

These funds enable us to deliver programs that extend well beyond the minimum standards of provision. A strong example of this is our InitiaLit and SpellEx Phonics and Reading approach. These evidence-based programs are instrumental in propelling our students well above state averages in reading and spelling, laying a robust foundation for lifelong learning success. The effectiveness of these programs relies on access to high-quality, individualised student workbooks and carefully curated teaching resources, including flashcards, visual displays and digital tools that enhance engagement and mastery.
Without the financial support of our parent community, we would simply not be able to sustain this level of resourcing or maintain the high standards we are proud to uphold. Your contributions directly translate into tangible educational benefits — equipping our teachers with the tools they need and ensuring every student has access to exceptional literacy instruction.
We are sincerely grateful for your partnership. Together, we are creating the conditions for every child to thrive academically and beyond.
Honouring Country and Culture

Last Friday, we held a truly wonderful Welcome to Country assembly in partnership with Mullauna Secondary College. Coming together annually to honour the rich culture and traditions of the Wurundjeri people, the traditional custodians of this land, remains a cornerstone of our school's identity. This ceremony is a powerful reminder of the importance of respect, understanding, and our connection to the land we share. It further reinforces our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and cultural awareness. Thank you to the many parents who joined us for this significant event.

Community Spirit at Halliday Park
Over the last fortnight, Halliday Park has been buzzing with the fun and excitement of our grade-level picnics. It has been fantastic to see the students enjoying themselves and the adults getting to know one another in such a relaxed setting. These catch-ups are a brilliant way for our community to build the strong relationships that make Mitcham Primary such a welcoming environment for all.
Sporting Success: District Swimming
We are incredibly proud of the students who represented us at Wednesday’s District Swimming Carnival. The effort and sportsmanship displayed were outstanding. Congratulations to everyone who participated, and a special mention must go to Reha and Arina for their fantastic podium finishes! Your hard work in the pool really shone through.
School Council Nominations
On Tuesday evening, we held our final meeting of the 2025 School Council. I want to extend my gratitude to our outgoing council members for their dedication over the past year.
As communicated on Monday via Compass, nominations are now officially open for parents to join our 2026 School Council. If you are interested in contributing to the governance and future direction of our school, nomination forms can be collected from the school office. Please note that nominations close on Monday, 23rd February at 4:00 pm.
One of the reasons for our school’s success is the great support we receive from elected parents who offer their assistance to the school administration and staff. We want this partnership to continue and are looking for supportive parents to nominate for the 2026 Council.
Wishing everyone a restful weekend.
