Performing Arts Update

It continues to be a busy and creative start to the year in Performing Arts!

Music

All students have been developing their rhythm and focus through Kaboom Percussion body percussion and drumstick work. They can now confidently explain what a composer is and have explored the music of three classical composers: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Edvard Grieg and Johann Strauss II.

Students in Years 3–5 have extended their learning by beginning work on a beautiful ensemble piece, “Going Home.” They have learned three different musical parts — bass, harmony and melody — and have identified which part they would like to continue performing as we develop the piece further.

Dance

In Dance, students continue to enjoy exploring the Ausdance Dance Cards, a fun and engaging “lucky dip” movement activity.

Foundation–Year 2 students have explored yoga and range of motion (ROM), building body awareness and control. Years 3–5 students have been challenged to respond to silent instructions and have begun choreographing a duo “signature” sequence with a partner, focusing on teamwork and creativity.

Drama

Foundation–Year 2 students created crayon stick puppets and worked together to build a class puppet theatre. In small groups, they rehearsed and performed their own short puppet shows — a joyful and collaborative experience!

Years 3–5 students explored the concept of status in drama and how it operates in both performance and the wider community. This learning was inspired by resources from Drama Victoria and sparked thoughtful discussion and performance work.

Choir

Choir has begun rehearsing two exciting songs — “Coconut Banana” and “Gravity” — which students will perform later this year. We look forward to sharing these with you!

Speech & Drama Eisteddfod

Please take note of the Speech & Drama Eisteddfod flyer. This year, the Speech & Drama Day will be held on the Saturday of the June long weekend.

If your family will be available and you would like your child to participate in an ensemble group, please let me know. I would also love to hear from families whose child may be interested in performing a drama solo. I am very happy to support students with preparation during school hours.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the Performing Arts program.

Warm regards,

Mrs Huf
