Notes from the Principal

School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports – Reward System
This week we launched into our School Wide reward System. Take note of our beautiful “trees” located in our entry foyer. Students who are noticed for showing their RED GUM Values can receive a “leaf” that they place on their House Tree. The House with the most leaves at the end of the term will receive a group reward. This term the winning house gets a Milkshake Break with the milk shake expert - Mrs Steele.
Congratulations to Travis and Nellie who were the first student to receive a “leaf”. Over this week, more leaves have been added.
Bus Route Changes
Our changes to our bus routes have been approved by Student Transport and Public Transport Victoria. The new routes have commenced and we hope that this has made it easier for a few of our families.
School Council
Wednesday 25th February will be our last School Council Meeting with our current members. I encourage anyone considering nominating for a parent position to do so. Our proactive School Council plays an important role in helping to run our school, and I appreciate the support they give to me, my staff and our students. If you are interested, nomination forms are available at the Office. All School Council members must hold a current Working With Children Check.
Junior School Council
We had our first Junior School Council Meeting this week. We have a request from the students to build a “play” fire pit on school grounds, which I have approved and will organise.
The students have also chosen to run a fundraising day on National Eucalyptus Day in honour of our beautiful Red Gum trees.
On Monday 23rd March we invite everyone to dress up as a native Australian animal, or wear something representing native Australian flora and fauna, for example, a t-shirt with a native animal or plant. Please bring a gold coin donation for Planet Ark.
I also hope to plant some eucalyptus trees with the children on this day.
COVID 19
It is in our community again! If you have cold/flu symptoms, please test. Unfortunately, the Department of Education does not supply free tests anymore.
The recommendation is 5 days at home, but is not compulsory.
Stay well, be well.
Coming Up…
Athletics Clinic
Tuesday 24th February and Tuesday 3rd March we will be hosting Jason Thomas and Will Barber who are going to run Athletics Clinics for our students. These clinics are possible due to our successful Sporting Schools grant application for Term 1.
District Swimming – Warrnambool
We wish Ivy Luhrs all the best as she heads off to compete at District Swimming on Friday 27th February. Ivy will be competing in Freestyle and Backstroke.
Clean Up Australia Day
Friday 27th February is Clean Up Australia Day. To demonstrate our RED GUM Values, we are going out into our community to do some cleaning up. All students will be provided with gloves for this expedition and supervised by staff as we clean up Cavendish.
Parent/Carer Information Evening LITERACY
(Open to current enrolments and prospective enrolments)
7-8pm Wednesday 11th March at Cavendish Primary School.
We will take you through how we teach Literacy at our school and provide you with information on how you can support your child’s progress.
NAPLAN Year 3 & 5
NAPLAN testing opens on Wednesday 11th March and closes Friday 20th March. I will send home a NAPLAN timetable when it is set.
It is important that we remind our children that NAPLAN is not the be all and end all. NAPLAN is a couple of tests used to track how all our Aussie kids are going at school. It is not a measure of the kind of person you are, or all your personal achievements. We know our Cavendish kids are great people and that they give their best effort and aim for excellence in everything they do.
SGSSA Athletics
SGSSA Athletics will run at Mitchell Park on Tuesday 24th March. All students Year 3-5 will be required to attend. More details will be provided as they come in.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Principal
