Year 12 Retreat
By Hannah - Year 12
On Thursday 5 - Friday 6 February the Year 12s embarked on our final school camp, ready to tackle the activities and take in the beauty of Rutherford Park Retreat in Blampied.
Past Year 12s always came back with the best stories, yet nothing could have prepared us for how fully our expectations were met. The retreat provided us valuable time at the start of a busy year to slow down, reflect and strengthen our connections with each other. We were asked to embrace the silence that we can find in the natural world, sitting quietly and contemplating our Loreto journey’s thus far and what we want to achieve this year.
There where plenty of opportunities for moving around and bonding through activities such as hut building and discussions about how our school houses should be working to promote whole school inclusion. We also spent time learning about the concept of Felicity, encouraging us to consider what brings us joy and how we can find these moments when we inevitably face tough times throughout the year.
Whether it was during the fast-paced synchro practices and deadly war cry attempts or watching the day come alive over the beautiful property during breakfast, we have come away with a new found sense of belonging in our Loreto community.
Through all of this, one of the biggest highlights was the affirmations activity that we used to finish off our retreat. Hearing our peers express how much we are valued by our community and show appreciation in a way that we may not have done before, left us with an empowered feeling, ready to tackle Year 12.
On behalf of the class of 2026, we cannot wait to lead Loreto College this year and leave our unique mark on the school!
Prisoners of War Memorial Service
By Bonnie
On Sunday 8 February, Jemima and I as College Captains represented the College at the 22nd Prisoners of War Memorial Service.
At this memorial we were given the opportunity to listen to stories of some of the thousands of Australians who were prisoners during WWII and remembered those who sacrificed their freedom for our country. Alongside this we heard from many current serving Australians and were able give thanks to those who continue to serve.
We had the pleasure of meeting Juliana Addison MP and Catherine King MP who also attended Sunday’s memorial service.
