From the Assistant Principal: Wellbeing

By Kerryn Boyko
Welcome
It has been lovely to welcome students back to our beautiful College grounds as we start a new academic year. A reminder that our Loreto mentor teachers are the key person that students see and interact with every day. The role of our mentor teachers is to advocate for, and support students, knowing their individual stories and needs - one of many reasons why relationships with parents and caregivers are very important to us. We value the opportunities these partnerships give us to work together to support students to grow and thrive.
Camps & Events
Our Term One camps offer students a valuable opportunity to strengthen their sense of belonging within their year level. Already this term, our Year 12 students have taken part in an overnight retreat, deepening their connection as a senior cohort while reflecting on the ways they can contribute to our school community in their final year. Likewise, whole‑school events such as the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals play an important role in fostering House spirit and shared identity.
Camps also provide the chance for students to step outside of their comfort zones. Whether it’s navigating new environments, taking on physical challenges, or simply spending time away from home, these experiences help students build independence, confidence and resilience. Camps are laden with moments of growth, teaching our young people that they are capable, adaptable and resourceful.
Live4Life & STRIVE
The Live4Life program is an evidence-based, community-driven initiative aimed at improving youth mental health. In conjunction with Live4Life Ballarat we enter our third year of delivering this program to students. We have commenced our delivery of the youth mental health first aid to our Year 10 students, within the STRIVE program. Later in the year, our Year 8 students will participate in this valuable training.
Mobile Phone Policy
A reminder about our school mobile phone policy which is in line with the Victorian Government requirements which state that
'mobile phones brought to school must be switched off and stored securely during the school day'.
Our students are not permitted to have their phones on their person during school hours. This policy supports student wellbeing by encouraging face‑to‑face interaction during class breaks, reducing digital distractions and helping students stay present and connected during school hours.
