Leader of Learning & Teaching

Welcome back to 2025!

We hope all students and staff had restful holiday breaks and are recharged and ready for another dynamic year of learning at MCC.

From a learning perspective, we welcome some new KLA Leaders this year. For 2025, the following staff will be in acting roles:

Samantha Malagre (English 2 Point)

Wendy Brooker (Maths 2 Point)

Belinda Aventi (Maths 1 Point)

Will Lyon (RE 1 Point)

Lucia Dickie (RE 1 Point)

All of these staff members have demonstrated excellence in teaching and learning, and will be wonderful additions to our KLA Leader Team.

Our new teaching staff are also settling in well and have begun their Induction at the College. This group of teachers will meet every two weeks to engage with the ‘Marian Way’ and be inducted into all of our processes, initiatives and rich history. We have the utmost confidence that this new batch of teachers will also provide quality learning opportunities for our students through their passion, hard work and desire to “Live the Marian Way”.

Congratulations also goes to our HSC Class of 2024 on their outstanding HSC Results. Yet again Marian was placed in the top echelon of Regional Schools in the State and the best School in the entire MIA and Diocese with 22 Distinguished Achievers. We are also very proud to share that MCC also had 6 students achieve an ATAR above 90! We congratulate all our students and teachers on these amazing results. Congratulations to all staff and students!

This year we are also launching a new Assessment Notification Scaffold for 7-12 Summative Assessment Tasks. The changes ensure important information is highlighted for students, consistency in the communication of the submission method and most importantly that our wonderful Marian colours are displayed. By next week, Assessment Calendars will be finalised and shared with parents and students. A reminder that Students in Years 7-11 will have no more than 3 Summative Tasks per year per subject, while HSC students will have a maximum of 4.

Finally, please note that as the new School year commences we know that students and families are excited to meet their new teachers and find out their new classes. While these classes might be different for the student than in previous years, we have utmost confidence that all staff and classmates will provide a productive and supportive learning environment for all students.

While we understand families may have individual requests and preferences for certain staff and students in their classes, there are many factors which influence our timetable and as such it is very difficult to meet each individual request.

As a School that believes in the Growth Mindset, we ask that all students actively engage in their current classes and take Term 1 to adjust to these new environments and encourage ongoing communication with the classroom teacher to clarify questions about student learning.

We hope that everyone has an enjoyable start to the school year!

Yours in learning,

Damien Herb
