Year 10, 11 & 12

Assistant Principal's Report
We have seen a successful and productive start for students this term, including their participation in the swimming carnival (the Athletics carnival is on Thursday 27 April) and extra-curricular opportunities available during break time and after school. There is a wealth of information throughout this newsletter which will outline many of these opportunities and will assist you in being informed on what your child is doing at school.
Parent/Teacher interviews - Our invitation to all families to attend.
I would like to encourage all parents/carers to attend the parent/teacher interviews on Tuesday 1st April. The interviews will provide vital feedback on the progress of your child along with discussions of encouragement and support for improvement.
Mobile phone policy enforcement
In accordance with the Department of Education’s Mobile Phone Policy issued by the Minister for Education, personal mobile phones must not be used at Wyndham Central College during school hours (9am – 3pm), including Break 1 and 2, unless an exemption has been granted by the Principal.
The aim of this policy is to provide:
- a safe environment to learn without inappropriate mobile phone use (including cyberbullying) or distractions.
- greater opportunities for social interaction and physical activity during recess and lunchtimes.
If there is a breach in the mobile phone policy, the mobile phone will be confiscated and placed in a secure location for collection at the end of the day (please refer to the policy).
I ask that all parents/carers please support this policy for the benefit of all students.
Preparing for term 2
All students return after the holidays, on Tuesday 22nd April (please see important dates for further explanation) and are expected to be in our college winter uniform. Please ensure that your child has this in place before the commencement of term 2, with all the necessary equipment, ready to learn. Further to this, I would like to ask that you please assist the College by ensuring that your child wears the correct school uniform every day. It is the policy of the College that all students wear our school uniform with pride. This is in keeping with our aim of developing in students a feeling of belonging, respect and a sense of identity. Students must wear the uniform on each school day, to and from school and the uniform must be always presentable. The positive image that the College presents to the community is important to us.
I would like to wish all students and families a relaxing term break, along with a happy and safe Easter and we look forward to seeing all student’s back on Tuesday 22 April.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 10
As we come towards the end of the first term, it is a good chance to celebrate all that has happened and look forward to what is to come.
Along with the SRC representatives and class captains our house captains have now been elected and a big congratulations to all students who have achieved a leadership position. Those students undertook their first day of training with yLead recently and we look forward to seeing how these students lead our school over the course of the academic year.
With the athletics carnival just around the corner, the house captains will play a key role in supporting that day. The carnival is a great opportunity to celebrate the many outstanding athletes we have at the school, and we hope to see as many year 10 students participate as possible.
Following the swimming carnival, we had students qualify for the regional competition, which is a superb achievement and no doubt we will have more qualify following the athletics.
All year 10 students have had a chance to complete a session from Elevate Education on study skills. Now they have commenced in the senior school, we want to develop those good habits that will help the students in whatever pathway they achieve over the next few years. If any families are interested in what they covered, Elevate run sessions for parents which you can register for here Register your place in our parent support series
As part of that transition to senior school, students now complete SACs rather than CATs and just a reminder that if any student misses a SAC, they must have a medical note in order to reschedule that SAC, which is the process that must be followed in year 11 and 12.
In pastoral time students have been looking at work experience and completing the safe@work modules. It is critical that students complete those modules and get the two certificates. More information regarding work experience including the dates and the process to apply will be coming soon. In the meantime, there are many opportunities posted on our Year 10 team page which all students have access to. There is a hair and beauty session, a careers expo at Avalon, opportunities in technology and information about working in the medical field all coming very soon. Keep an eye out for more of these opportunities.
I hope all students get to enjoy a fantastic break and come back term 2 energised!

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 11
The Year 11 students have settled into their first year of the VCE journey and tasted the high expectations needed to complete Year 11. Students participated in an Elevate workshop which alongside our pastoral and study sessions have highlighted to students the importance of setting clear goals and having a growth mindset towards their studies. Students also have access to after school tutoring which they can sign up for through the Class of 2026 team's page.
To further support students we have an amazing team of tutors and staff at student services to assist students if they have well-being concerns or feel worried about the workload or other matters. Please inform the tutor teacher, Student Services, or me if you have any concerns so we can put strategies in place to support your child.
Students self-nominated and voted for various leadership roles including Year 11 Student Representative Council members and Class Captains. We acknowledge and appreciate our student's leadership endeavours and hope they can fulfil these roles as models for their peers. Below are our Student Representative Council Members and Class Captains for 2025, and we would like to extend our appreciation to all students who nominated themselves for a leadership role this year.

In the last week of term, on Tuesday the 1st of April, Parent-Teacher-Student conferences will take place at the College and the Year 11 team strongly encourage parents and guardians to book in with tutor and classroom teachers. This is a great opportunity for the teacher, student, parents and/or carers to share and learn more about the student socially, emotionally and academically in order to best support the student going forward. These bookings can be made by parents/carers via Compass.
As we head into the colder months of the year, we ask parents and carers to make sure their students have the correct winter uniform, hoodies and non-school jumpers aren’t a part of the uniform. If you need assistance with getting a winter uniform, please speak to Student Services.
Well done to the Year 11's, you have made it through your first Term as VCE/VCE VM students! Enjoy your well-deserved break.

After-School Tutoring Support
The college has employed former AVID students as tutors to provide additional academic support for Year 11 and 12 students who may be at risk or seeking to excel in their studies. We encourage families to reinforce the importance of attending after-school tutoring sessions, particularly if there are concerns about their child's academic progress. The tutoring schedule has been shared with students. We ask that they connect with the relevant tutors to confirm the specific days and times. Tutoring is available for the following subjects:
- Accounting, Arts, Biology, English, General Mathematics, Legal Studies, Mathematical Methods, Media, Music, and Physics.
Students are also encouraged to take advantage of additional support during Homework Club, which is held on Wednesdays from 3:10 PM to 4:00 PM
Skyline Access
The college has purchased a subscription to Skyline resources to enhance students' learning, engagement, and motivation. Through this platform, students can access:
Resources for 10 subjects: Psychology, Biology, Specialist Mathematics, Health and Human Development, Physics, English/EAL, Chemistry, General Mathematics, and Mathematical Methods.
VCE study skills, including time management and motivation strategies.
Online webinars covering topics such as SAC success and exam revision techniques.
VCE/VM Minimum Requirements and School Expectations
To be awarded a VCE certificate, students must successfully complete a minimum of 16 units, including 3 units from the Literacy/English units, which must include a Unit 3 and 4 sequence, and at least 3 other sequences of Unit 3 and 4 studies.
Students are expected to attend school every day, except in cases of illness. It is important to plan holidays during term breaks to minimize disruption to learning. A high level of attendance is essential for teachers to authenticate students' work. A recommended attendance rate of 95% is encouraged.
As VCE students, it is expected that they dedicate an average of 3 hours per night to study in order to successfully complete their VCE. This study time can be reduced if students use class time effectively.
If a student receives a Notice of Concern or Failed Results, or a Report indicating an N (Not Satisfactory) grade, it is important to engage in discussions with your child, the subject teacher, and tutors to develop strategies that will support the student in achieving an S (Satisfactory) grade.
School-Assessed Coursework (SACs) and Absences
- Students may be permitted to reschedule an assessment task if they are absent due to medical reasons or a school-approved activity. A medical certificate will be required to receive a score for the assessment.
- Students who are absent for non-approved reasons may be given the opportunity to submit redemption work in consultation with the subject teacher. However, they will not receive a score, only an S (Satisfactory) or N (Not Satisfactory) grade.
Term 1 Report and Parent-Student-Teacher Conference
Parents and carers are encouraged to review the Term 1 reports, which will be distributed to students and made available via Compass. Students will receive their Term 1 reports in Week 9, providing an opportunity to reflect on their performance and set goals for the upcoming term. These reports include details on subject performance, assessment outcomes, attendance records, overall achievements, and homework completion. Parents and carers are asked to schedule a meeting with tutor teachers and relevant subject teachers to discuss student progress and explore ways to support their child in their final year of VCE studies.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s tutor teacher or myself.
