Year 8 & 9

Assistant Principal's Report
Thank you for taking the time to read our WCC newsletter, we believe in strong relationships between school and the wider community and this is an excellent tool for us to keep you informed of what has been happening, our achievements, and what is coming up.
There are only a couple of weeks left before the term one break and in that time we will have our whole school Athletics carnival (Thursday March 27th) and also our student-teacher-parent conferences (Tuesday April 1st). It has been an eventful start to 2025 and no doubt there are many children (and school staff) who are in need of a few sleep ins and quiet days to recharge their batteries.
We have recently finished NAPLAN and are extremely proud of the efforts made by our Year 7s and 9s in their endeavours to do the best they possibly can. Thanks need to go to our Tutor Teachers who administered the tests, and we look forward to getting the results later in the year and celebrating our student successes.
The Middle Years students have transitioned well into their new classrooms and routines. Having shorter lessons and more variety in their day is working well for the majority, and the additional time with their Tutor Teacher each morning is helping to develop stronger relationships. Please remember if there is ever a concern regarding a school matter your child’s Tutor Teacher is your first contact person. We’d like to encourage you all to book an appointment with them for the upcoming interviews, even if there are no concerns they will be able to provide a helpful insight on your child’s progress and how this can be supported at home.
We hope you enjoy spending time with your children over the break and wish you all a relaxing Easter. School will return the day after Good Monday.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8
As we move through term one at Wyndham Central College, we continue to focus on ensuring our Year 8 students are ready to learn and set up for success. Developing strong habits, such as coming to school prepared with the right materials, maintaining a regular study routine, and balancing schoolwork with wellbeing, are essential for their progress. We appreciate your support in reinforcing these habits at home.
In sports news, our Year 8 students recently competed in the inter-school volleyball competition. They put in a valiant effort, demonstrating teamwork, resilience, and school spirit. While they narrowly missed out on progressing to the finals, we are incredibly proud of their dedication and sportsmanship. Well done to all involved!
Looking ahead, Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place in Week 9. This is a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, set goals, and address any concerns. We strongly encourage all parents to attend and engage in these important conversations. Further details, including booking information, will be shared soon.
Additionally, we are excited to offer an engaging Cyberbullying Incursion for our Year 8 students. This session will educate students on responsible online behaviour, the impact of cyberbullying, and strategies to stay safe online. We believe this will be an insightful and meaningful experience for all students.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9
Can you believe Term one is almost over?
This term has been jam packed for the Year 9s. It is always great to see students enjoy our annual swimming carnival, it is always a great day to be a part of.
Our new elective block is turning our students into growing pastry chefs, gardeners, volleyball superstars, artists and medical microbiologists. It is wonderful to see the projects and products our students have designed or created through this new elective.
Weekly assemblies have become a highlight of our week with our usual assembly challenges and student of the week. The following students have been awarded student of the week.
Week 3 - Kristelle Turner of 9F for consistently engaging with her work and make a new student feel welcome within her class.
Week 4 - Asma Said of 9F for working well in class and achieving her best in class.
Week 5 - Jericho Nya Naw of 9J for making consistent and improved effort in his classes and for being a gardening superstar.
Well done to all students for their efforts this term. Keep up the great work.
This term’s tutor challenge has been a competitive one. 9S started strongly but 9B are determined to take home the win.
Current standings are below:
It is still anyone’s game with two assemblies left until the end of term. Remember you have to be in it to win it!
Over the last two weeks Year 9s have been sitting their NAPLAN tests. All students have done very well in each of the four tests. I am very proud of the students' efforts and behavior through NAPLAN. Well done Year 9!!
Term one draws to a close as does the warm sunny weather. It is important that students come to school in the correct uniform. Please reach out to your student’s tutor teacher or our student wellbeing team if you require any support in purchasing any uniform items.
Attendance is also a key ai in Year 9 as we prepare our students for Senior school and beyond. Anytime your student is absent please get in touch with the school via Compass, email or call.
It has been wonderful to learn more about the students throughout this term.
