We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to each of you who gave up your time and generously helped our students in the kitchen. Your support and involvement have been invaluable in making this program such a success. By sharing your skills and knowledge, you’ve not only helped the children gain important life skills but also fostered a sense of community that we deeply appreciate.
Thank you once again for your dedication, enthusiasm, and willingness to contribute. We are truly grateful to have such a supportive and engaged community.
Most importantly, a big congratulations to all the children who dedicated themselves to the seven weeks of the program and fully embraced every aspect of both the garden and kitchen activities. It was wonderful to see them eagerly learning new skills, from weeding and planting to cutting, grating, setting up the tables, and using proper table manners.
The most exciting highlight of the program was when the children stepped out of their comfort zones to try new foods and flavours—many of which came from fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables. Their enthusiasm and willingness to explore new tastes made this experience truly memorable.
Well done, everyone, for all your hard work, curiosity, and teamwork!
Have a very Merry Christmas and I look forward to seeing all your happy faces in 2025.
Arigatou!
Mrs Tammie Siegert
Student Reflections:
Dear Mrs Siegert,
I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to you and all the wonderful helpers who dedicated their time to make this year's Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) program truly unforgettable. Your efforts have turned each cooking session into a special experience, one that will stay with us for the rest of our lives. Thank you for creating such a warm, supportive, and inspiring environment that made this year’s program not just a learning experience, but a memory we’ll cherish forever. By Ayden
Overall, I have enjoyed the 7 weeks of cooking. I loved all the meals we made and eating it after. Gardening was fun especially when picking out potatoes. Although I wish I had picked out a massive one. My favourite meal was pizza. I might cook at home some time. Ryan Le
These seven weeks I have tried new types of foods and liked them. I have learnt to cut easier and use my prior skills this year. I love mulching with our friends. My favourite food that we made was spaghetti. From James
These 7 weeks I have tried new types of foods but I also love food. So it was not that bad. I also loved making different food and also loved doing the mulch around the plants. It was really fun and I also had Ryan and Jonathan helping me. By Jaxson
The last seven weeks of the SAKG program has been a blast. This week we're making pizza! I was very excited for the SAKG program at the start of the year but then I realised that we were doing it last. Here we are in the last week of the SAKG program and making pizza. I recommend this for all schools because it's fun and tasty! By Hamish
It is the end of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Gardening Program and I am going to tell you all about it. For my whole experience I have had three gardening lessons. For gardening I mostly did shoveling up the mulch and put it in a wheelbarrow. Now for cooking I have done one of everything. My favorite was bread and then the dip, main meal and salad. If you were doing the dip you get to stay and set up. The group that I was in is Zucchinis. Mason
Today is the last week of cooking. The last seven weeks of cooking were fun. Today we made bread, which was a Christmas shortbread. By Toby
Today in cooking I made the salad a bean salad. The other groups made pizza, dip and Christmas shortbread. I am sad I don't get to do it next year. My favourite thing to make was the main meal. I also liked gardening. Besides, the main meal was making the dip. By Nina
