PETALS OF PEACE INCURSION SLA

In Discovery during Term 3, SLA students explored in depth the book, 'Paper-Flower Girl' by Margrete Lamond that was nominated for Picture Story Book of the Year.

Blurb: The Paper-flower Girl creates elaborate flowers out of paper, but she has few  customers. When the Giant from the Hill brings her to work for him, they soon discover      they want very different things. Before long, the Paper-flower Girl is forced to create things she no longer recognises as flowers. When the exasperated Giant throws her from the Hill, the Paper-flower Girl takes with her something belonging to the Giant, incorporates it into her elaborate flowers, and attains greater success than the Giant.

Themes of creativity, emotions, individual action, hope, following your heart/being true to yourself and courage come at a time of great transition for our Yr 5 students applying for leadership roles in 2025 and our current Yr 6 students heading into secondary school.

When making the concrete pots with our buddies in Discovery, SLA students also made paper flowers and we had tried to have this incursion in Term 3 but due to availability, it happened this week.

The Petals of Peace origami folding workshop is a fun and interesting activity that is a symbol of hope and solidarity.  The 'Petals of Peace' project invites children, and people of all ages to fold a paper lotus flower as a gesture of peace and friendship to children less fortunate. The lotus flowers are symbolic of 'Petals of Peace' blossoming within our local community and throughout the world. Thank you to Mai and Eliza for leading this workshop for us.
