Gold Mine Excursion

9D were lucky to attend an excursion to Central Deborah Gold Mine in Bendigo as a part of their Humanities unit on Australian History.

Mr Thompson organised a tour of the mine for his class where students were able to go deep into the mine (61metres underground) to learn about the techniques the miners used and how technology has changed over time. They learned about the working conditions for the miners and the outcome. Over 929kgs of gold were extracted during the gold rush alone, which would be worth about $85 million today. Students had the opportunity to pan for gold and some were lucky enough to find a few small pieces.

Everyone had a great day out and benefitted from a learning experience outside of the classroom.
