Principal's Report
As 2024 draws to a close, it is a pleasure to reflect on what has been a busy, exciting and successful year at Suzanne Cory High School
A major highlight of Term 4 was our annual ADT (Arts, Design, and Technology) Showcase. This vibrant event celebrated the incredible creativity and ingenuity of our students, with an array of outstanding work on display. From baked goods to battle bots, intricate artworks to captivating media videos, as well as musical and dance performances, the showcase reflected the diverse talents of our students and their ability to push boundaries in their creative pursuits.
This term, we also had the privilege of farewelling the Class of 2024 at a wonderful valedictory ceremony. This event is always a highlight of the school calendar, as we celebrate the culmination of years of hard work and the beginning of exciting new chapters for our graduating students. While we are sad to see them go, we hope to welcome them back often for alumni events. Whether they return to inspire current students during Alumni Week, join us for career talks, or simply reconnect with the school community by attending the musical or soirees, our alumni remain an integral part of Suzanne Cory High School’s community.
For our remaining students, this term has been a time of transition and growth as they step into their 2025 timetables. I commend them for their adaptability and enthusiasm as they take on new challenges and opportunities in their studies. This term also marked the launch of our new timetable structure, which features longer periods designed to enhance learning and reduce the frenetic pace of the school day.
I must admit, there was some trepidation from staff and students before the change. Questions about how it would work and whether it would suit our school environment were top of mind. However, once the new timetable began, optimism quickly replaced fear. Feedback from both students and staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with the extended periods allowing for deeper engagement, thoughtful discussions, and more sustained application of learning. Students also experienced their first study sessions, which encouraged them to make intentional choices about how they use their time effectively. These changes represent an important step in fostering independence and responsibility in all year levels.
As we reflect on this, I am reminded of a powerful quote from the Psychologist Abraham Maslow “In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or step back into safety.” This year has proven that when we embrace change with courage and an open mind, it can lead to unexpected and very positive outcomes.
As we head into the holiday season, I would like to thank our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and talented students for their contributions to the success of this year. I encourage everyone to take the time to rest, recharge, and reflect on all that we have accomplished together.
I look forward to seeing our community return in 2025, ready to embrace new opportunities and challenges.
