Inside the Classroom

Early Primary

In Class 5, students have been busy embracing the festive spirit through engaging Christmas craft activities. They have created beautiful decorations and handmade gifts, showcasing their creativity and teamwork.

Additionally, the class has enjoyed several outings, which have enriched their learning experiences and provided opportunities for social interaction. These adventures have been both educational and enjoyable, allowing the students to explore the world around them.

As the year comes to a close, Class 5 is supporting the transition of the new kindergarten students.

Class 10 has been full of excitement and creativity as we approach the end of the year! The students have been loving music lessons and exploring new instruments, discovering their rhythm and musical talents. We’ve also embraced the festive season with fun and engaging end-of-year crafts, sparking lots of joy and creativity.

A highlight of the term was a special visit from Santa, who surprised the students with wonderful picture books. The class thoroughly enjoyed reading their new stories together and sharing the festive spirit. It’s been a fun-filled time in Class 10, and we’re cherishing every moment as we wrap up a fantastic year!

Class 11 is continuing to focus on sentence writing as the students are all growing in confidence in their ability to identify the who, where, and what someone is doing in a picture. In maths, they are exploring 2D and 3D shapes, looking around their classroom to see what they can find.

They are being very busy in the Skills House, practicing their strong hands movements. The class would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe holiday. They can't wait to see everyone back here next year.

Upper Primary

The upper primary students have been enjoying the last few weeks of school. Classrooms have been busy with learning activities and a lot of Christmas craft also. On Friday our Stage 3 students celebrated the end of primary schooling for our Year 6 students. Students and staff went to Lake Canobolas this morning and then enjoyed a pizza lunch.

Class 12 have been enjoying the spa and music lessons. They have gone on class outings and participated in a camping dramatic play session.

Stage 4

Stage 4 Science - In class, we discussed how a physical reaction occurs between carbon dioxide gas and soda when Coke and Mentos are mixed together. We attempted to drop an entire tube of Mentos into the bottle, but some got stuck, so only about 10 out of the 22 Mentos went in. We recorded the reaction and used the Live Better signage in the background to measure the height of the explosion.

Students also learned how to make slime by mixing certain liquids together. They discovered that by controlling the ratio of glue, they could adjust the consistency of the slime.

Additionally, students studied plant structures and cells by observing leaves and cicadas under a microscope.

Class 15 made Christmas gingerbread to get us in the mood for the festive season. We learned how to accurately measure and mix the ingredients for perfect gingerbread.

Stage 4 has also been studying Ancient China in history. We explored Chinese inventions, such as chopsticks, and found it tricky trying to use them to pick up items.

Class 16 had a special treat during their cooking lesson this week! Chef Roxy 😁 (Isaiah's mum) joined the class to share her secret curried sausages recipe after Isaiah cheekily claimed Mrs Callaway's version wasn’t quite up to his mum’s standard. The students loved the dish, with many going back for seconds. A huge thank you to Roxy for generously giving up your time to make this a memorable experience for everyone!

Stage 5

Class 18 have continued with first aid training, which is a vital life skill and will enrich the life's of people throughout the community for years to come.

Class 19 continued with great teamwork, creativity and celebrations were experienced with the completion of creative designs, crafted into colourful Christmas decorations, utilising various materials.

Cooking continued to embrace classes across Stage 5 and has been very successful in drawing students together, stimulating conversation whilst also providing significant confidence for one and all.

Celebrations continued with special visitors from the Orange community, showcasing and celebrating student achievements.

Our Lego builders collaborated in audited numerous design kits, ensuring Lego is ready for deployment in 2025. The builders communicated, reviewed and followed a self-check process, think they have some fun while completing the task.

Class 17 engaged in an innovative research and design task in creating a helmet for everyday use and sketch their concepts, prior to the building phase. Students brainstormed who, where and why helmets are worn in the workplace, sport and recreation.  An experiment was conducted with the custom made helmets and eggs from a height.

We look forward to the end of year Christmas outing to Lake Canobolas during Week 10. Thank you to all staff and students for an enjoyable year, congratulations to one and all.

Stage 6

Stage 6 SLR students completed their end of term assessment task by leading a group of younger students through an exercise program with coaching. They did a brilliant job engaging and encouraging the students to participate.

In week 8 our stage 6 students had the choice to participate in a stage 6 connection day here in Orange or attend sailing on Sydney Harbour with the marine studies students. Students in Orange enjoyed bowling then a picnic lunch at Cook Park. The laughing was infectious as students cheered each other on at bowling.

Students sailing on Sydney Harbour were very fortunate to avoid the rain and enjoyed a day practicing their sailing skills on a large catamaran boat, an ex-Sydney to Hobart race boat!

Students in the Tutorial classes are still working hard and keeping very active.

Learning and play are being melded together in both classes to improve both understanding and engagement.

We are supporting and welcoming students who are joining the Tutorial program from other schools as well as assisting students to transition back to the base schools.

Hunta has participated in transition to Canobolas High and has also visited his school for end-of-year activities. Mrs Griffen has been busy meeting with new families to ensure a smooth transition for all students.

Class 21 have a special interest in motorbikes and had a special visitor with a shiny motorbike last week as a reward for all of their hard work.

We are looking forward to finishing off the year with a Pizza Picnic on Tuesday.
