How Do Students Know What They Are Learning?

Significant research shows that when students know what they are learning, and the skills they need to master in order to achieve the learning, they are far more successful.

Every lesson for an MRPS student includes a Learning Intention that states what they are going to learn about. Every Learning Intention has its own Success Criteria. These are the skills that students need to master in order to achieve the Learning Intention. Usually these are co-created with students using their prior knowledge.

Each Learning Intention and Success Criteria is recorded in the class 'Big Book of Learning'. It is referred to throughout the week and Success Criteria are added to as student knowledge increases.

Students also reflect on their learning at the end of the lesson. What is a strategy that helped them today? What Success Criteria did they master? What are they proud of, thinking about the Learning Intention or Success Criteria?

Here are some examples of class Big Books of Learning. Can you match them to the year level?
