Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.

May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

Uniforms

It has been delightful to see students arriving at school proudly wearing their Miners Rest Primary School Uniform, including the Miners Rest Primary School hat that we have for sale at the administration office. A school uniform fosters an ethos, identity, pride and sense of belonging. We strongly encourage our families to support our commitment to wearing our school uniform, with this including a navy blue broad-brimmed hat to ensure that we are providing sun safety measures for our students. Attached below is our Miners Rest Primary School uniform policy to support the understanding of the school's expectations around school uniform.

Homework

The purpose of homework at our school is to support students to develop skills in organisation and to provide a sense of responsibility as a learner. We strive to personalise homework for each child where possible, to ensure an authentic purpose, rather than the same task for all students in the class. Examples of this personalisation would include preparing a presentation (speech, show and tell), reading selected material from school at home, interviewing a family member, selecting resources/information from home to support a task at school.

This approach to homework is designed to make a difference to a child’s learning and performance, because the tasks being set are achievable. This allows children to complete their homework independently, while building skills in managing their time and behaviour aligned to the learning in the classroom.

Attached is our Homework Policy, outlining the expectations of homework from Foundation to Year Six.

Thankyou!

We had a lovely visit from the Alfredton Rotary representatives last week, where we received the donation of a brightly coloured outdoor seat that will be placed in the playground near the Senior Learning Centre.

Our School Captains and Vice-Captains proudly received this very generous donation and we sincerely thank Marg and Deb from the Alfredton Rotary Club.

We hope that all of our families enjoy the rest of the week,

Kylie Nissen.
